Thompson wants the same max deal that Kyrie signed (5/94m) Ha!!!!! Yeah, that is so happening. You're telling me you wouldn't give almost $20 million a season to a guy that averages 10 points and 8 boards?

Since this is the dead period of the calendar I got back to thinking about tanking. What if we just eliminated the draft entirely? All new players would be free agents as of July 1. It just might work.

It just might work. Because then you'd create a culture where where a handful of the dominate teams would maintain a monopoly in each conference.

Players would want to be on the best team and get a ring, instead of trying to improve shit teams. A situation like you mentioned, wouldn't have worked out for teams like the Clippers and Warriors. Blake and Curry would have went somewhere else. You also have less importance in the front office. Drafting right and not f***ing up your picks, is a big part of a great front office.

Why would players go to a great team where they would be coming off the bench? They want to win but they also want major minutes. Besides teams at the top are unlikely to have the cap space needed to sign them. This would give teams incentive to improve so they could attract players.

Besides teams at the top are unlikely to have the cap space needed to sign them. This would give teams incentive to improve so they could attract players. It's the same reason why LeBron James and Chris Bosh joined Dwyane Wade in Miami or why Kevin Love opted to join LeBron and Kyrie Irving in Cleveland. It's the culture of the best players wanting to play together with their friends so it will take the most minimal amount of effort to win a championship and call yourself the best. It's been instilled in these players since they formed superteams in AAU or transferred high schools to create dominant dynasties. Nobody wants to take on the responsibility of rebuilding a franchise, they want to find the situation most tailor-made for them that will give them the easiest opportunity to win a championship. If the NBA dissolved the draft and made every eligible player a free agent, it would all but kill professional basketball in about half the league. Nobody would ever want to sign with Minnesota, Sacramento, Milwaukee, Detroit, or any team like that. Everyone would look to a warm-weather city like Miami, Los Angeles, Houston, or Dallas, or somewhere their star potential can grow into legendary status, like New York, Chicago, or Boston.

And on the flip side, you'll also have lesser skilled players grossly overpaid because they do choose to sign with with the "bad" teams.

Raps sign Jonas Valanciunas to a four-year, $64M extension.
With the cap going up, this is a steal.

RIP Chocolate Thunder. I met him when he was with the Globetrotters. Great guy. Told me he was once fined $10K for breaking a backboard.

Kyrie Irving (knee) is doubtful to be ready for the Cavs' regular-season opener on October 27, and there's a chance he's not able to go until January, according to sources of Chris Haynes.

Why am I getting a Derrick Rose vibe in terms of Kyrie? Seems like he's going through a patch of remaining healthy for an entire season.
