Last night's show was filled, mostly, with answers. "Oh, THAT'S why Cena had to go over Rusev, because KO was going to get the rub." "Oh, THAT'S why they had a (mostly) Network exclusive PPV, since NXT fans will already be into it".
But why does Cena get a rematch? He lost. Cleanly and decisively.
The Lesnar rematches made sense. The first one he was owed, contractually. The second one was there because of the non-finish of the first.
The Rusev rematches also had some logic to them. Rusev was owed a rematch. Lana convinced the Authority to schedule one more.
But what's the logical reason for Cena/Owens 2? Owens didn't take Cena's title, so there's no rematch clause. It was just an exhibition match, so there's really nothing at stake. There was no outside interference of any kind. And Cena got in plenty of offense, so it wasn't like John has to avenge his shattered pride. He put up a good effort, but came up short against a guy he's never fought before, who has plenty of experience.
And why announce it ON THE SAME SHOW? That's like saying, "Thanks for watching. Hope you enjoyed the match. We're gonna do the exact same thing in a few weeks. Please keep paying us." At least have Cena request the rematch on RAW and tease Owens rejecting it. Maybe they'll make it a storyline. Because, realistically, the only way Cena *got* that rematch was by going to the Authority and requesting it. Something that Cena himself gave Lana **** for doing.

What blew my mind was that Owens beat Cena, they announce a rematch, and it's NOT for a U.S. Title shot that Owens clearly just earned. The f***?

So they can set up a third match. What blew my mind was that Owens beat Cena, they announce a rematch, and it's NOT for a U.S. Title shot that Owens clearly just earned. The f***? Maybe he did not want a title match.

It's John Cena and given who he is to the company, he can get anything he wants from a kayfabe standpoint (well except being entered into the Andre the Giant Battle Royal).
Hell, I think that's why Cena disappeared after the lost the match. He immediately went to the back, found Triple H and demanded a rematch. I think the reason will be that Cena thinks he can beat Owens and he underestimated him. Although it doesn't make sense, Cena underestimated The Rock of all people so he's going to bring up some excuse as to why there's a rematch.

In kayfabe it makes perfect sense. This is John F'n Cena. He is so established, he is getting a rematch no matter what. If you are going to do it, you BETTER be able to do it twice. Do you think Cena would just be like, "well, finally met my match, let's keep it moving"?

Regardless of whether Owens asked for it or not, why wouldn't Cena put his belt on the line? He's been doing it every other week.

It's the Cena paradox. Cena loses to The Rock, and it "ruined his life" and he "can't sleep". He beats Rock in the rematch, taking the title, and when it's announced that the champion's rematch clause is (as always) in play, his response was, "What is this, once in a lifetime best out of three?".
Cena can't go without a win, in kayfabe. He has to have the win because, per the company and character mantra, he's the only person that the kids and troops have to cheer for and believe in, so a loss just can't go unavenged. A win, sometimes, still has to be avenged if the opponent isn't decimated enough (see: Rusev), but ending on a loss, it's maybe happened twice in a decade.

Because Owens has said a few times he doesn't want that title. He has the NXT Title to lord over people. As for the rematch, like I said elsewhere, they needed a hook to keep the people dropping the Network that were free subs. In kayfabe, Cena has more than earned the respect to get a rematch if he asks.

It already pisses me off. Kevin Owens pins John Cena clean in the middle of the ring, but an out has already been established to totally nullify that victory's importance.

John Cena has earned the right that if you beat him, he gets another shot. What other combat sport could an upstart show up and beat the established top dog and there NOT be a rematch?

I got no problem with a rematch but I hate that it's in two weeks. I get why they are doing it but it reminds me of TNA doing Angle/Joe II 3 weeks after the first one. Like, I just saw it. Give me some time to digest it before having another serving.

What if there's only a rematch purely because it was great the first time around and had the fans thoroughly invested in it?
You've got a hot newcomer the fans (and internet) likes and the WWE's golden boy of the last decade. Both sides look good, everyone walks away happy, you announce the rematch and rake in the cash from the fans who can't wait to see them go at it again.
Not sure what the problem here is.

Do you think Cena would just be like, "well, finally met my match, let's keep it moving"? I'd like to have seen some creative stalling. Owens says he proved himself and doesn't need to fight again, plus he's got his hands full defending the NXT title, The Authority won't let Cena have the match, etc. I want to wait to see this match again. Anticipation does wonders.

Since when does someone have to earn a non-title match? The only time I can remember that being a thing was when they had that 4-way on RAW to determine the Undertaker's next Mania opponent.
Also, today was renewal day after the free May and they wanted new subscribers to stay on, so they started hyping up MITB.

Not sure what the problem here is. People are worried Cena will go over in the rematch, making last night's match pointless.

I could see the match happening and then Kevin Owens wins by DQ/shenanigans.

Think of it this way: John has a special omnipotent hacked MITB case that never depletes.
