Now stop asking if we can imagine if Dean Ambrose is the WWE World Heavyweight champion. You've been asking the same question at nearly every moment where Dean shows up. I have a decent imagination. I can imagine it, now shaddap!

Why the hell was JBL ever WWE Champion? I never saw anything special about him... Did he seriously draw?

I just can't imagine a world where a guy like JBL drew as champion. He just always seemed..mediocre to me. Product of the times I guess, he was a rich, white Republican. In 2004 that's what everyone hated.

HE WAS A WRESTLING-AH... GOOOOOOD!! I just can't imagine a world where a guy like JBL drew as champion. He just always seemed..mediocre to me. Product of the times I guess, he was a rich, white Republican. In 2004 that's what everyone hated. Part of it had to be tenure, he was with the company since 1995 and always was a consistent worker, got super over with the APA at one point, and they turned him heel. And to be fair he played a magnificent heel during the time, this self centered guy who turned on Farooq/Ron because he was getting popular in the media with books and his Stock Marketing skill, and they turned it into this self centered Millionaire Type goon who renounced his Texan Origin in favor of being a Donald Trump like New Yorkian (Who still had Bull Horns on his Limo however) who you just wanted to see lose and get his ass kicked.
He was a solid heel for I'd say a few years, they gave him a shot for his service in the Tag Team and Midcard for basically a decade, and he ran with it to a good degree getting later into his career run. He worked as a good douchebag and he still kinda does when he isn't being a complete doof on commentary.

Product of the times I guess, he was a rich, white Republican. In 2004 that's what everyone hated. He certainly drew on that for heat. From what I recall, ratings were up when he was champion versus when Eddie had been, so he drew in that sense, and he was the perfect champion for a lot of people to chase until Cena finally got him. Helped that he had one of the most credible finishers in the company. I think maybe once or twice people have kicked out of it, but it usually meant death.

I do miss the days of finishers meaning absolute death.

I especially liked when the whole "CAN YOU IMAGINE HIM AT A CORPORATE GATHERING, MAGGLE!!!" point was killed dead when he was asked if Rollins had been to any meetings.
JBL is the worst. The absolute worst.

I liked Lawler's response to that line of thought on EC.
So... how many board of directors meetings has Seth Rollins sit in on as champion?

They need to fill the void after Brock Lesnar left. Just Because HHH didn't want to work Tuesdays! Fixed for "Uncle Paul" (his reasoning behind it at ONS 1)
edit: dammit, beaten to it

Yeah, JBL sucks on commentary but let's not re-write history that he wasn't a spectacular heel character.

This topic reminds me. Why the hell was JBL ever WWE Champion? I never saw anything special about him... Did he seriously draw? He didn't, but Eddie Guerrero wasn't either. They thought a heel champion being chased would do better, because typically it does. However, they then proceeded to move Eddie out of the title picture and throw shitty challengers at JBL, such as Big Show. Didn't do his reign any favors.
