I don't think so. Punk played 'the real guy' way better than everybody. His actions, words and facial expressions all looked genuine. His charisma was also outstanding. The only guy who could hold a candle to him in that department was Cena. Punk is one of the greatest ever when it comes to mic skills, Owens is not even the third best on the roster now. Punk excelled as a face, tweener and heel (especially at the latter two). We have to wait to see what can Owens do in a different role.
Owens is doing very well but, Punk is still miles ahead.
Rollins is the one replacing Punk as the most well-rounded guy on the roster. He also has similar mannerism somehow.

Nobody's going to listen, because it's me talking, but WWE doesn't need a "Next Punk" (they didn't need a "Next Rock", "Next Austin", or "Next Hogan" either...)
WWE isn't going to push a guy who insists on continually portraying himself as a company outsider, even after having spent 6+ years on the main roster, shouts "EVERYONE ELSE IS FAKE, BUT I'M REAL! I'M THE ONLY ONE WHO'S REAL!", etc..., and has that massive a chip on their shoulder the way they pushed Punk ever again.
They likely won't even sign someone who insists on presenting himself as a disagreeable, aloof iconoclast at all costs, ever again.
As has been mentioned, Owens has already allowed himself to be seen as more "WWE" than Punk would have stood for.

Nah, too different.
CM Punk was the short order cook from a Waffle House, Owens is a short order cook from a TGI Fridays.

I agree, the WWE doesn't need another B+ player like Punk, they need a A+ player like Austin and Rock. Punk is by far the most over rated talker in WWE history, all he did was have work shoot interviews and acted like everything else besides him is stupid and fake. Owens doesn't do that crap, he makes everything feel real and a lot more interesting. CM Punk could never get me interested in watching a PPV, but Owens can. Could Owens be an A+ player? Time will tell.

I'm afraid that on this board he will fill the void of the over praised wrestling semi god. People are already elaborating all sorts of scenarios of him beating Lesnar, main eventing wrestlemanias and reigning supreme on the WWE. I really really hope that the annoying fanboyism that followed Punk all long of his career will not resurrect with Owens because i can of like him

Well, he certainly is filling the "I'm gonna hate this guy because he's popular and different" void around here that Punk left, so...maybe.

Well he does have that gift where he can a complete asshole(kayfabe) to his opponents and people will bend over backwards to explain that he is the face.So maybe.

Punk would have had to leave a void, first. Rewatch the last 3/4 of 2014 and then get back to us.

Punk left a void.
Owens got into the void but then got stuck and needed firefighters to winch him out.

I'd say he's the opposite, Kevin Owens looks like he has a fondness for beer

The other thing is this....
About Punk's act...
...it only works once.
Somebody else coming in and trying to play the same cards is going to get smacked down hard as an imitator. Especially with the knowledge that WWE doesn't want to put up with somebody who acts like that again.

No, Punk had a "real" feel to him, Owens is way too gimmicky as of now.

If your talking in terms of left over Punk fans than yea sure Owens has taken that over. However, as it's been repeated before WWE is a moving engine, one part leaves and the other part fits in. Only person they can't really stand to lose is Cena but even then that would only hurt them in the short term(1-2 years). Punk was great but new people come along and you embrace them.

That's due to bad booking if the supposed heel can easily fit the criteria of either a face or a tweener. When Punk was a heel and actually wanted to draw heel heat, he did. Owens on the other hand, whether it's him or the booking, doesn't. He kind of did it with Zayn, and that's probably because Sami Zayn is THE babyface. I don't blame him. It's quite hard nowadays to draw heat when you're actually popular. It's even harder if you were a super popular babyface/tweener (Punk's case or if Bryan ever turns heel). So, it's more credit to Punk than criticism to Owens.

Eventually we'll look back at Owens and he will have been this era's Austin. Not in terms of popularity, but in terms of character.
And to the poster who said he is unlike Punk because he has yet to complain about being held down? Give it time, Steen has shown to be high maintenance over the years...

Ugh enough fat jokes, done to death Owens is a different character than Punk. They both have their special nuances and traits which make them stand out, besides their obvious strengths There is a massive void left by the lack of Kevin Owens neck beard jokes.
