I remember when I was a teenager everyone was convinced the Deftones song "Digital Bath" was about having a gay experience, but according to the band themselves it's about... well... killing your girlfriend by throwing a toaster into the bathtub. honestly the lyrics are ambiguous enough it could be taken either way.

What are some songs that people claim are about sex, but actually arent? Two 80s songs come to mind: The Stroke by Billy Squier: Actually about record companies "stroking" the ego of rock musicians (which explains the "spread your ear pollution" line). Under the Blade by Twisted Sister: Tipper Gore famously claimed this was about bondage, but its actually about throat surgery. Are you sure about the first one? The video and hearing the song on the radio make me uncomfortable. Funny how different people can hear the same song and have completely different reactions and interpretations. I've never thought The Stroke was about anything other than the record business from the first time I heard the song. It never even occurred to me that people might interpret it in a sexual way until I saw an interview on VH1 where Billy Squire was laughing about the sexual misinterpretations and explaining what the song is really about. Similarly, apparently a lot of people think the opening lines to Georgia Satellites' Keep Your Hands to Yourself ("I've got a little change in my pocket going jing-a-ling-a-ling") is a masturbation reference. That one really blows my mind, because you have to take just that single line out of context and ignore all the other lyrics (even the very next line, which explains that he wants to use that change to make a pay phone call) in order for that interpretation to make sense.

I forget if Leonard Cohen intended Hallelujah as being about sex or not. I am pretty sure Jeff Buckley considered his interpretation about sex, but obviously there have been so many covers, it's going to be all over the place, from some having it be about relationships, sex, actual religion, etc. Leonard Cohen is the master at mixing sex and religion poetically, so it is at least partially about sex as most of his songs are.

Anaconda by Nicki Minaj may seem like it's about sex, what with her talking about banging dudes for coke and Eiffel Tower sized penises not being enough to satisfy her, but if you actually listen to the lyrics, it's about her taking pride in her own butt.

Honestly, if you're looking for overt sexual references, I think the video for "Rock Me Tonite" is the best example. It's full of homoerotic imagery, which is good if that's your thing. Or maybe I'm just guilty of reading into things too much as always.

Chuck Berry: My Ding a Ling. What? It even says in the first verse that said Ding a Ling was a gift of "Silver bells on a string" given to the narrator of the song by his Grandmother. If you think otherwise than you must have been a member of the moral majority back when the song was first released.
