What are some songs that people claim are about sex, but actually arent? Two 80s songs come to mind:
The Stroke by Billy Squier: Actually about record companies "stroking" the ego of rock musicians (which explains the "spread your ear pollution" line). Under the Blade by Twisted Sister: Tipper Gore famously claimed this was about bondage, but its actually about throat surgery.

While it was originally thought to be about an all male orgy "Abraham, Martin and John" is actually about the assassinations of Presidents Lincoln and Kennedy, Rev.Dr.Martin Luther King Jr and Sen. Robert Kennedy.

The Musical Box by Genesis is about the spirit of a young boy who is killed when his young female friend knocks his head off with a croquet mallet whose spirit is trapped in a musical box that the girl opens one day which releases the boy's spirit which then ages, attempts to molest the now teenage girl, turns into an old man spirit and then dies. It is not about sex.

Not sex and I can't say as it's true, but "Think About You" by Guns N' Roses isn't to a girl, it's to drugs.

The video and hearing the song on the radio make me uncomfortable.

On a similar note (although, he reveals the actual subject of the song at the very end), "I Used To Love H.E.R." by Common isn't about a girl. It's a metaphor for hip-hop and how dissatisfied he was with the direction that the genre was taking thanks to the rise of gangsta rap.

I forget if Leonard Cohen intended Hallelujah as being about sex or not. I am pretty sure Jeff Buckley considered his interpretation about sex, but obviously there have been so many covers, it's going to be all over the place, from some having it be about relationships, sex, actual religion, etc.

Summer of 69 always gets accused of this. Not falsely... except Bryan Addams, sued AllMusic to get any info of his stuff taken down. SO... f*** that guy.

It is not about sex. Isn't molestation kinda a sex type thing? So yeah, the song is at least partially about sex. Also, every one knows croquet is the sexiest of ball and mallet activities.

Honestly I never thought of that. Kudos.

I am pretty sure that was that one song, "Shannon" by that high pitched bearded dude from the 70s.
