The retro game thing, good idea.
But who the hell would buy that? If you want Conker's Bad Fur Day, you can either get the Xbox remake for significantly cheaper, or if you have a One, you could get that Rare collection thing.

Honestly 80 bucks is in line with Ebay listings that I just checked out. Cheaper than Amazon too. They are more expensive when it comes to Star Fox, though. Granted the top listing on Amazon for it lists it as in rough shape. Edit: $10 for Wario's Woods - the SNES version Nintendo bafflingly seems to insist doesn't exist at that - is actually a pretty good deal.

The Retro Replay version will have the original 64 release, but the Xbox remake lacked multiplayer modes and was censored. Thats part of the appeal of the original. As I have a One I'm pretty grateful for this release.

I have a NES, SNES and 64 that all presumably still work.
In the event that they don't, how expensive are replacement parts normally?

Ah, there's just something about having the original game in its original form. And as far as the price goes, you can't always count on a 2 dollar garage sale find... so I have no problem with the price point. It's as worth as much as you're willing to pay.

Makes sense. With digital downloads becoming more popular Gamestop is trying to find new revenue streams. They don't want to become sad like walking through Best Buy nowadays.

I have a NES, SNES and 64 that all presumably still work. In the event that they don't, how expensive are replacement parts normally? The parts by themselves anymore aren't tough to find at a good price. It would just depend on the parts you need, whether it's a moving electronic part of the system, a connection point, just a piece of plastic missing/broken that's causing issues, etc. Finding someone that can do the work though (unless you got the knowledge and/or balls to try it yourself) is where it gets tough. You might wanna look into some locally owned game stores to see what they offer. There's a mom and pop near me that will do the whole gamut (find what's wrong, order the parts, and fix it) and they only charge around $5-20 for service (depending on how much work they actually had to do...it might be $5 for a broken power button, all the way to $20 if they pretty much needed to disassemble the entire system) along with whatever the cost of the parts themselves were. And they hold onto receipts, product reviews (to show they didn't order shoddy parts from a low-rated seller), and so on so you know they aren't stiffing you at any point.

I'd pay $70 for just the cartridge 3 year ago. The Xbox remake was censored and lack feature that the original had and the original came out at the end of the N64 life cycle with no promotion, making it a cult classic. Plus before the announcement of the rare replay, many people thought they wasn't going to get rereeleased due to Microsoft treatment of Rare. If you think that bad, the original megaman game for the nes is now selling for over $80 despite the fact that game been rereleased multiple times.

I've been making rounds saying this, but I never understood why Gamestop ditched selling older games in the first place?

Gamestop continues to deny the existence of eBay. As someone who buys retro games, Ebay is always a last resort. Why? 1. Condition is a lot of times skewed. At least in an actual shop I'm allowed to examine it before I buy it. Most Ebay listings have pics but even then it's impossible to see everything. 2. Price is usually cheaper. I'd actually say that game prices have shot up because of them being online. How does a game that would have sold 10 years ago for $100 now have a sticker price of $500? It's because every dipshit looks at what other people are selling it for and trying to get a little more for it and over time it's climbed. 3. Reproduction carts are starting to show up. It's almost impossible to tell if a game is a reproduction until you get it. Some people might not care but if I'm sinking a pretty penny on something, I want the real thing. I've been very lucky over the years to find most of my retro collection in stores and up until 5 years ago, I could get really good deals. The deals are still there, but stores have wised up a bit. Gamestop selling retro games means I might finally have a reason to stop by there.

Speaking of reproduction carts, are Gamestop's retro games the same thing, or are they the original copies? If it's the latter, than I can understand some of these prices.
