This works for those of us who don't have modern videogame consoles. I visited my parents' place a few months ago and brought home my SNES and Genesis. I checked out a local store that sells old games. I was surprised to see Toejam & Earl costs nearly $50.

I'm so glad that I got Conker's Bad Fur Day when I did considering the ridiculous prices people pay nowadays. $20 at Gamers over 10 years ago.

This works for those of us who don't have modern videogame consoles. I visited my parents' place a few months ago and brought home my SNES and Genesis. I checked out a local store that sells old games. I was surprised to see Toejam & Earl costs nearly $50. I remember when I was younger and first saw a game store that had older titles. It stunned me that Toejam and Earl was going for $20 at the time, and this was when you could get a Street Fighter or any of the Sonic games for much cheaper than they are now. That game has been at a premium for a long time now. I kinda laughed at Jet Grind Radio being worth $20, because this past Sunday I was cleaning out stuff and found I had not 1, not 2, but 3 copies of Jet Grind Radio on the Dreamcast. In fact, I technically have 4 since I also own the HD version on my 360 (didn't have a working Dreamcast at that time). It also stuns me they only want $30 for Shenmue. People might snatch that up the microsecond it becomes available, as listers online have spiked their asking price due to the hype around Shenmue III. I've seen a lot of people wanting $50+ for it, so it stunned me when I saw Gamestop only wanting $30. I imagine if they're the only notable online store asking a decent price, people are gonna vulture over it waiting for a copy to be available. I'm also surprised Capcom vs SNK 1 is going for more than either of the MvC games, especially 2. MvC 2 is supposedly starting to spike back up again since the digital version is no longer available on PS3/360. I like CvS better, but it's always been lower in price than either MvC. Supposedly they're only selling games that they can sell for under $100. If the price they're told to sell it at tops $100, they won't take it. That's why you don't see anything like Earthbound, Wild Guns, Snatcher, etc. Plus, if a game does top $100 in value that IS on the list, then it will get pulled. A lot of people think Chrono Trigger will get pulled from the listing in just a few months, as the value on that has been climbing steadily the last few years with no drops, and some places are already selling it at $100.

I saw they are selling the original Smash Bros. for 49.99. I guess thats great if you REALLY want the original cart, but I have that game on the Virtual Console, so its not like you don't have a cheaper option to play it. I noticed that they have Shenmue priced at 30 bucks, I'd be willing to pay that since that's not too bad a price. Of course they have no copies for sale.

$13 for Paperboy II on the SNES. What a deal! Just wait until they list Earthbound cart only for $500.

I've been meaning to add more to my N64 and PS collection, so this is really nice. Too bad most of the games I want/need aren't available at the moment.
However, a VMU for Dreamcast for $8? That doesn't sound too bad...

I'll be damned.....this means a store close to where I live is selling games for my ancient gaming devices
the last time I bought a game was maybe 4 years ago and I drove with a friend about 40 minutes to get the place

Only thing I would want is Pokemon Snap and an N64 to play it. I wish I could find picture games like that I could buy on Steam.

I do wonder why Nintendo hasn't made another one... the Wii U game pad or the 3ds would be perfect for that.

There's a local game shop that buys and sells old games without all the hassle of Gamestop. Think I'll just keep using them, especially if GS is gonna sell them at ridiculous prices.

I guess thats great if you REALLY want the original cart, but I have that game on the Virtual Console, so its not like you don't have a cheaper option to play it. You'd be surprised how many people will walk into a game store looking for the genuine article. Almost every time I'm at the local Vintage Stock (a chain of stores in the midwest that buy/sell just about anything music/movie/videogame/comic related from any era), someone will walk in looking for it for a game night or something like that (it doesn't help that the one I go to is close to a college campus...my alma-mater in fact). Some of them will even ask for the price and say they would've been fine with dropping $50 for it. The store also does rentals too, and that (along with Mario Kart 64 and Goldeneye) is among the most rented N64 games by a mile. In a few years, I bet Melee will be the same case tenfold. You'll have people that want it for a throwback game night or for old time's sake, and the tournament scene for it is still incredibly popular. I do wonder why Nintendo hasn't made another one... the Wii U game pad or the 3ds would be perfect for that. Hell, mix it in with the AR functions of the 3DS as a little side game. I didn't think much of the original game (way too short and too easy, whether you're just trying to get to the end or get a picture of every Pokemon...if you're a score chaser it's a different story), but if they'd put a little more meat on the bone the second time, I'd probably end up getting a sequel. Hell, with enough regions in the entire saga, you could make mini versions out of each region and have Pokemon native to those regions, or use notable places from those regions (Mt. Moon, Lake of Rage, the bridges from Black/White, etc).

The main appeal of the original to me is seeing a bunch of Pokemon interacting in a live environment; not really something you ever really see covered and it's just a really cool idea and visual.
It's always baffled me why there's no sequel, but if I were doing one, the big things I would do with it would be make it a lot more substantive and take it off the rail, have it be a bit more free-range and maybe have a stealth element to it with that with you having to sneak up to get the right shot.

A few years ago I saw super smash bros in this thrift store near me, stood it to be for 1 dollar, that thrift store kicked ass, it closed a few years ago sadly.

Now I'm craning my mind to remember if all the Babbages/Software ETC's had retro games (I think they did) or if it was just Funcoland... though I'm almost certain it was just Funcoland that had the vintage SNES/Genesis demos set up.
For some reason, even though it probably wasn't a particularly sustainable business model, Funcoland I definitely miss the most of all the pre-GameStop acquisitions. I still have a price list for SNES games somewhere.
