Jesus how was this movie so overlooked in 2013? That was one of the most intense movies I have ever seen. Everyone f***ing delivered and it might of been Jackman's, Gyllenhaal's, and even Terrance Howard's best performance yet. I do wonder with the major success of Gone Girl, will more people seek out this film or will there experiences will be dictated by comparing it to Gone Girl? Or even Gone Baby Gone when questioning about moral dilemma's in a similar plot that will also be compared to Gone Girl since it stars the other Affleck Brother? But really what an absolute amazing film.

Very intense and brutal movie...I cringed during the kidnapping scenes with Jackman and Dano, a tad too much for me, can't stand this type of graphic violence

I legit thought Jackman or Gyllenhaal would have at least gotten major award nominations for their acting.

I've NEVER had a movie keep me on edge like that. Saw it by myself at the theater and I felt emotionally drained when it was over.
EDIT: I seem to remember it being released close to the deadline for that year's Oscars, but I might be wrong. Still a shame that it didn't make more noise.

The first 2/3rds of it were flat-out amazing, but I feel they really cheesed out on the ending. It was like a 1970's thriller with a 2010 "twist ending". Just really felt weak and out of place to me.

I decided to see the movie after I had a coworker raved so much about the movie. My coworker was watching the movie in the theater and about halfway through, the movie projector broke and the theater couldn't finish the movie. The theater gave everyone two free tickets per person for their inconvenience but he just had to finish the movie, that the only other theater in town playing the movie late at night was about 35 minutes on the otherside of town and the movie just started 30 minutes ago. So he drove like a demon and paid for another ticket since it's a different theater chain to see the rest of the movie. He wasn't mad paying twice to see the movie once, it was that good.

Boyfriend and I saw this when it was in theaters and it was so good. The acting was top notch and it was so intense. The whole theater was super into it and there were a lot of moments when I would hear at least about half of the audience gasp because they were so startled by what was happening. I'm so glad that they ended up with the cast that they did since there was a lot of cast shakeups before they filmed and I'm glad the Jackman and Gyllenhaal were in the parts.

No kidding or the director change up's. Mark Wahlberg was attached for the role of Hugh Jackman's role three different times. I admit I'm not the biggest Mark Wahlberg fan, but seeing the cold ruthless intensity Jackman gave out, I can picture Wahlberg trying to match that intensity and failing making it completly cheesy, hammy, over the top, and borderline comical.

Because the ending SUCKED.
There was a great build up followed by a convoluted plot involving mazes and such. Instead of just imploring the idea that someone else did it (thus the actions of the 2 fathers drives even more guilt into it)and actually have the balls to kill the girls, we did an almost happy ending because the idea of dead children is not marketable.
It could have just been this generation's Ox Bow Incident, instead it felt like a sleazy thriller at the end much like Man on Fire.

I did think Jackman was amazing and Jake G gave one of his better performances, but yeah devolving into a borderline CSI ending there really killed what the movie had been building for so long.

Jake Gyllenhaal was great in this. Jackman too. This movie really made me become a fan of Gyllenhaal. I also like Paul Dano.

It seems like after the low of The Day After Tomorrow, Gyllenhaal has just been quietly building himself into one of the better actors currently out there. He's put in a lot of really solid performances over the last 7 or 8 years.

One of my favorite films of 2013. Intense, suspenseful, emotional, and it leaves a lasting impression on you regarding the realities of child abduction and torture.
