I totally get it when the producers were talking about "A little Slimer here goes a long way." A lot of children's shows seem to do that anymore. There's one thing that the kids like, and then they overuse it to the point that by the end of the show, people are so damn tired of that character, it ruins the entirety of the show. I didn't watch the Real Ghostbusters that much as a kid, but what I did see, I enjoyed. It was probably the early episodes, but I do remember watching the episode where Peter, Ray, and Egon go to the parallel world where Ghosts are the Ghostbusters. But I remember one of the early episodes being on the Ghostbusters DVD and enjoying the hell out of it. The episode on Ghostbusters 2? Not so much. But, like what's been said before, too much Slimer is a bad thing. I've seen it happen on other shows where one character becomes so damn popular that the show decides to overuse the character, pissing everyone off. This is the first time I've heard of them wanting to get rid of Ray, though. That would've been completely asinine. I have the DVD set that has the real Ghostbusters Cartoons too ... it's pretty amazing the difference in quality between the two episodes. I also hadn't heard the Ray thing before... it's funny because they made him more "useless" by basically giving one of his big things to Peter. Ray was Slimer's buddy. Also considering it was mostly Akryod's idea and he supposedly watched the show it'd be a pretty big middle finger to him. Exactly. Ray was the one that liked Slimer, because of Ray's naive, yet friendly and inquisitive demeanor. Peter hated Slimer. That was great comedy.

Why did the GBs need slimer? I liked slimer. He was decent in his original role as basically the mascot and Peter understandably hating him led to some of the best jokes of the series. and using him sparingly was fine. When it became Slimer is the super important star of the show and everyone loves him was when the problem started. Just like Cena

Yeah my brother and I hated the Slimmer show episodes with the crappy drop in animation quality and goof-ball overly cartoony mad scientist and cat.

SLIMER
and the real ghostbusters but who gives a shit about that right?
I honestly figured they were trying to actively eliminate the "Ghostbusters" name for some unknown reason. Maybe old lawsuits with the other franchise or whatever. Or some bullshit focus group told them Slimer was all the rage and people wanted HEMAN not the Ghostbusters.

That really says it all. It'd be a little less obnoxious if it was "The Real Ghostbusters and Slimer."

It's irritating beyond belief. The off topic section should be a place where we can escape that.

It like when Transformers kept Grimlock in his dinosaur form post movie, regardless of the situation. There was a scene where he was repairing something using his tiny T-Rex arms.
From what I heard, someone heard kids liked him as a dinosaur so they went overboard with it.

By the way, in both this video and the on on the good episodes, Phelous mentioned "syndicated" episodes. It's not the first time I hear that term about TV but I'm still not sure what it means, especially since the way he's talking about it, it sounds like it was something that existed parallel to the regular show. You sell syndicated shows to individual stations. They had seasons basically sold to be played on other stations and some that were ordered and contracted specifically for ABC. By the way, in both this video and the on on the good episodes, Phelous mentioned "syndicated" episodes. It's not the first time I hear that term about TV but I'm still not sure what it means, especially since the way he's talking about it, it sounds like it was something that existed parallel to the regular show. Synidcated episodes were the Monday-Friday episodes that would go on different television affiliates. Like maybe your local ABC or NBC affiliate, or a local channel would pick them up. That's why there's 65 for syndication, to be able to fill about almost a quarter of a year worth of episodes. It also explains the lower quality as more had to be pumped out to make the schedule. The ABC Saturday morning ones were usually given more of a budget considering they were exclusive to ABC and only needed the regular 13 episode length that a regular cartoon season would get. Okay, that makes more sense now. Thanks for that explanation, guys! I totally get it when the producers were talking about "A little Slimer here goes a long way." A lot of children's shows seem to do that anymore. There's one thing that the kids like, and then they overuse it to the point that by the end of the show, people are so damn tired of that character, it ruins the entirety of the show. It's not just kids' shows either. A lot of TV shows (and even movies series) tend to forget that ensemble darkhorses are interesting BECAUSE they're ensemble darkhorses. It's a special treat when they appear, so making them show up more often takes away their mystique. Another good example of that? Uncle Ruckus from The Boondocks. At first he only appeared every once in a while and it was funny because, well, you spent just enough time without him that it felt fresh again when he'd reappear, plus whenever he did, it was in the most unexpected and unlikely circumstance possible. But then he started showing up more and more, to the point that by the fourth season, he's in every damn episode and his appearances feel very forced and shoehorned in because people like Uncle Ruckus so the more Ruckus the better, right? And you might have blamed that on the network, but then you have McGruder himself making an uncle Ruckus movie because when has an occasional running gag being stretched to an hour and a half movie NOT been a roaring success? Steven Moffat is likewise very good at ruining his own great ideas. River Song was a fun character at first, but then they made her appear more and more frequently, giving her more and more importance to the point that episodes featuring her pretty much became The River Song Show (featuring The Doctor) and people got thoroughly sick of her. Same thing with the Weeping Angels. Cool concept at first, then he made it bigger, then we somehow ended up with Statue of Liberty Weeping Angel but it hasn't killed all of Humanity yt because "there's always at least one person looking at it" and everybody went "are you f'n kidding us with this bullshit, Steve?".

Another good example is Tommy from MMPR. When he was the Green Ranger, it was awesome whenever he showed up, because it was sporadic and felt special. Then he became the White Ranger. And the special feeling was gone.

Also, one of the things I find most hilarious about the "fixing" of the show is Janine not being allowed to wear pants because she has to look "motherly" (because as we all know... mothers don't wear pants?), but she can't wear short skirts so she isn't "slutty".
So she HAS to wear skirts at all times but not ones that stop above the knees. I'd love to see if they have an exact "skirt sweet spot" and what length it is in inches and/or centimetres.

The part about Bill Murray wanting them to do his voice makes me think about the video game from a few years back. Was cool that they got the cast to do the voice work, but every line Murray delivered dripped with "Can I get my check and go home now?"

I'm still scarred from being a kid, waking up to watch my favorite cartoon, and hearing Dave F'ing Coulier voicing Venkman.
I'm glad Alanis wrote that song about you, you asswipe
