So yesterday I have nothing to do and my mum is over for a visit, and she wants to see one of two superhero movies she has'nt seen. Man of Steel and Guardians of the Galaxy.
I decide on Man of Steel. Thirty minutes in, and she's still waiting for Krypton to blow up, and she's not really that impressed, despite the prolific actors on hand, with the dialouge, the pacing, the tone, or the action, and half way through she declares she wants to watch Guardians.
I know there's a good movie in there if she has the patience. I probably should have shown her one of the MOS fanedits that are out there that cut out all this stuff.
So we switch on Guardians and we get to about fourty minutes in before I get bored of it. My mum was trying to show some interest, but she could tell I was having a tough time trying to enjoy this mediocre lightweight capecrap and told me "you don't have to watch it", so I swiftly switched it off. It's definitely the completest in me that compels me to keep buying Marvel movies.
Mum argued Man of Steel was too dense and dark, I argued Guardians was thin on substance and far too light.
Thankfully, we watched Agent Carter later that night and had a much better time.
So yeah...big flavors of the month that you watch in the theater, feel compelled to buy or recieve as a gift, and then when you watch it again you find nothing can make you go back to it again and again. Discuss

"Lightweight"? If your heart didn't crack after hearing Rocket's backstory (and during the final battle with Groot), I don't know what else to say. Also I need to defend Avatar too, it's not a complex or deep story and the message is obvious, but there's nothing in it that's especially ill conceived or offensively bad.
For me, Team America: World Police doesn't hold up at all. The songs are still great, but the movie itself is blatantly racist towards people of Middle Eastern descent and it tries to paint all sides in its debate as complete idiots.

I'd probably agree with Avatar it's main draw was the spectacle of it which you only get the full feeling of in theaters. it tries to paint all sides in its debate as complete idiots. Well Trey and Matt's overall style is to make fun of everybody.

Begins and ends with Avatar. The Blair Witch Project. Whether or not Avatar is also overhyped and/or has no replay value, I had to fix that one for you.

The character has to be endearing in order for me to care, Rocket was consistently not that throughout the flick, so his story did'nt resonate. Groot's fate did'nt mean anything either, as I was just thinking "He's gonna grow back at the end" and sure enough.....

I thought Rocket and Groot were the heart and soul of that movie. Which I still think is great.
I'd have to go with Borat. It's hilarious the first time, but on second viewing it's not funny anymore.

Benjamin Button.
Overly long, melodramatic Forrest Gump.

Jackson's King Kong was a pretty fun movie to watch in the theater.
Tried watching it again at home about 4 times and I always fall asleep or just get bored and wander off. The movie is fine, it's just seems to be a hell of a task watching it a second time. Doesn't help that it feels like a 14 hour movie.

That's why they suck. Ah come on, I know they're not your thing but that style has some merit. I think it can help people see the follies of being stuck in a certain point of view. It does appeal to the centrist in me, even when I disagree with them. The stuff I hate is the gross-out humor, or sometimes they get too into parodies and preaching and forget to actually be funny. I've not been really into the show for a few years, and season 17 turned me off of the show pretty badly, though I heard 18 was much better and had a story arc.

I'll get some stares, but The Lego Movie. It was okay, but nothing I'd watch again and again

Batman Begins. The Dark Knight (and to a lesser extent The Dark Knight Rises) do have replay value, but BB is long and boring and has too much setup before the action begins. Of course, this is all IMO.

Of course, this is all IMO. Agreed. I feel the same especially with Dark Knight Rises. It just takes too long to get going and it goes on for too long. The Dark Knight had the Joker on screen which definitely helped, but I thought tbe story in Rises wasn't as good and the Villain wasn't as interesting. I've tried to re-watch it a few times and just get bored with it.

Of course, this is all IMO. See I'm the other way around. I feel Begins is the forgotten film of the trilogy, which is a shame as I feel it's the best of the three.

Begins and ends with Avatar. Yeah I think you'd get the full experience if you saw it in 3D.
