Someone mentioned this in the Liger in WWE thread and its really surprising.
Was HHH/Kobashi planned at one point along with a WWE/NOAH partnership? How close did it come to happening? I'm late on this.

I remember vaguely seeing this tidbit during 2004 or 2005.

Cancer couldn't bury Kenta, HHH would have no chance against Mr. Burning Hammer.

I don't remember anything specifically about Kenta vs Triple H but I do remember NOAH was lobbying for some sort of exchange with the WWE in the mid 2000s. A bit later they also wanted Takeshi Morishima to go on an excursion in the WWE, but officials were put off by him because, well, if you've seen Morishima you know why. I love the dude but he did indeed look like an overgrown fat girl.

Yee after I made the thread I found a tidbit where Kobashi talks about wanting to wrestle in America in 2004, specifically against Lesnar. Pretty cool stuff.

I'm late on this. Yeah, it was me who said that. It was one of those things that popped up hot then vanished without trace. It struck me now though with how open HHH runs NXT that there must have been something to it even if it was just base level chats.

Fat teenage girl looking dude stiffing the shit out of all the things = money.

Honestly I think this was NOAH's business plan of wanting to expand an American audience to their product. So of course they started to contact WWE first since they are the biggest company in the world but something didn't work out and they settled on with ROH. I do remember seeing a post on the ROH boards around 2005 or 2006 that NOAH chose ROH over WWE because they are a true pure wrestling company and soon will be the number one company in the world.

Also I remember the comparison to Gordy reached Hayes and he was livid over it, and was lobbying for them to torpedo Morishima's chances for that alone after only seeing what he looked like.

If only this match could have happened prior to HHH's first quad tear... After that, either HHH was injured and/or less mobile, or Kobashi was.
