So I'm reading Iron Nation, a book about popular figured from the golden age of weight training. There's a section from a guy that worked at York Barbell Company, and he happens to describe Bob Backlund's workout regimen.
According to the book, Bob Backlund devised a program that he could do anywhere, as he was constantly traveling. So what he did, every day, was 1400 step ups per leg, and 700 ab roller rollouts.
The guy went on to describe that Backlund would also count every single rep out loud.
Everything about Backlund is just so crazy.

I think my voice would give out if I counted all those. That's 3500 reps. Sounds like a hell of a workout though, in terms of expending energy and building the most important muscles.

Backlund was just a freakish athlete, on par with Lesnar but in a more under-the-radar package. His match against a young heel Hogan where he deadlifts Hogan from the mat, carries him across the ring at chest level, and seats him on a turnbuckle is the most crazy overlooked feat of strength I've ever seen. To think what he'd be capable of in this era's exercise technology and information...

I remember going to a set of iMPACT tapings back in 2007 (I think) and Backlund did step ups off to the side of the ramp for almost the complete 3 hours. Dude's nuts.

I remember going to a set of iMPACT tapings back in 2007 (I think) and Backlund did step ups off to the side of the ramp for almost the complete 3 hours. Dude's nuts. And we thought Seth Rollins' workout was impressive
