That would have been awesome, but that was also during that period where Dibiase was REALLY on the "born again" kick, wasn't it? I believe so. But I wasn't aware of that at the time. But still, Ted DiBiase and his money being the Higher Power would have been great Oh, yeah, absolutely. What power's higher than the almighty dollar, after all?

I think the Jake Roberts storyline is an awesome idea, but not sure how it would've gotten over. Most fans watching in June 1999 probably didn't watch in 1996. I know I had very little idea who Jake Roberts is.
Shawn Michaels would've been the best choice combining storyline and casual viewers.

My first guess was Ted DiBiase. Hey, he was the one that brought the Undertaker in! And the one that brought Austin in!

Honestly Vince was kind of their only option at that point. Wasn't much of a reveal and rendered a lot of stuff that had gone on over the previous few months pointless, but he was about the only person there who made some degree of sense.
Plus it led to the only good match at King of the Ring 1999 which is an otherwise miserable experience so there's that.

There really wasnt anyone that would have lived up to the hype as already said, unless it was going to be someone from WCW/ECW like Heyman or Bishoff or something. Timing wise Bischoff was about to leave WCW that summer, so a month or so later it could have happened if a deal was worked out.. extremely doubtful but still. Bischoff left, but was on his WCW contract as well...but, if you're going to hold the reveal back a couple months anyway, holding the reveal back to September or October gives you the option to make Raven the higher power, which would have been as satisfying a payoff as you could really expect in 1999 pro wrestling

I remember the internet rumors at the time thinking it was either dibiase or Roberts (both would have kinda been "whatever") and people insisting it wouldn't be Vince because it was too obvious

Jake Roberts could have been cool. Although at that point in his life he probably would have been coked out of his mind during the reveal.

I'm not sure who else it could've been in order to make sense.
Also 1999 is the Russoist year. We should just be glad that the Higher Power that revealed himself to Austin didn't end up being...Stone Cold Steve Austin.

Ive never known how true the Jake Roberts rumour was, im pretty sure he was in awful shape and in a bad place by 1999. Storyline wise, he could have played on the 1996 King of the Ring, but really why would The Undertaker dance to the tune of Jake The Snake? It would have been interesting but at the same time pretty weird. To be fair, it wouldn't have been the first time Jake charmed Undertaker into working alongside him.

Wasn't Raven also rumored at some point? I even heard it was supposed to be Mike frigging Tyson.

Could've been and should've been Shane McMahon Funny, I just came in to post that. I don't remember all of the storyline (I was a WCW guy suffering through Nitro mostly at the time) but weren't he and Vince on the outs? Plus Shane would have access to Steph's teddy bear the personal stuff that the Ministry was using to go after Vince.

Related to this, I remain confused about why Austin 1), didn't tell people who it was, and 2), was the focus of the reveal, given Vince revealed himself to Austin the week before revealing it to everyone else.
