I don't know how many people use last.fm anymore, the player and subscription have been useless for a few years, but I've been using it the past few years to register and remember a lot of music I listen to, as well as get recommendations.
They recently updated it to look more like a hybrid of Spotify and Instagram. Friend interaction is really difficult now because it runs on a follower system, you get significantly less recommendations/similar artists/tracks now and it's generally just dumbed down to look like Spotify or something, but much less functional.
I don't think there are any other sites that let you 'scrobble', spotify kind of does but only to give you recommendations later, it doesn't tell you how many plays you have of an artist or song. If someone feels like making an alternative to it now is the time.

I use Last.fm, but seem to be one of very few people who do so. Every last.fm user who listens to the same rock bands as myself (Oasis, Guns N' Roses) is based in Brazil.
