Mr Sunscreen Steve Johnson of the GWS Giants has been given a two match suspension (one match with an early plea) fo this high hit on Swan Josh Kennedy. So unless he challenges it and it's a massive risk if he does, he will be sitting out the biggest game in the Giants short history.
Edit: he has taken the early plea, so he will miss the Prelim.

And in news that will have anyone that's not a supporter of the Hawthorn Football Club going 'Oh FFS!'.. Gold Coast Suns gun player Jaeger O’Meara has nominated the Hawks as his destination of choice when trade period comes around.
Now this does not guaranty he will go there. From what I hear The Hawks are very interested but they will pass if the price is too high (Years ago now retired Swan Ryan O'Keefe wanted to be traded to the Hawks, but the Swans wanted too much and the deal was never done).. Plus there are other players that the Hawks are interested in. So it's going to come down to what the Suns want, and what the Hawks are willing to give to get him.

Unbelievable game has just wrapped up, with #4 North Queensland eliminating #5 Brisbane in a 26-20 extra time thriller. Up next for the Cowboys... #3 Cronulla in a Grand Final qualifier.

First time in 5 years Hawthorn will not be a part of the final 4!
Disappointing? Well sure I guess. But I'm relieved that this roller coaster ride has finally come to end (hopefully briefly) for the last 5 years I get worked up going 'can they make it, can they win it, can they win this time, can they win it again, and again, and again'. Now I don't have to worry this year.
Well done to the Dogs though. I hope they go on to win the whole thing. Out of the teams left in, they and the Crows are the teams that would really make it special they win. Long time between drinks, they don't have a COLA or Academy players playing, they have not attracted great players with the allure of good surf beaches close to where the team is based. Just two teams have worked hard with what they had to get there.

Sydney have ended Adelaide's season with a convincing win at the SCG. But Sydney have injuries concerns with Gary Rohan being stretched off the ground during the match.
So Prelim finals are next week and the matches are:
Geelong vs Sydney Swans at the MCG Friday night
&
Greater Western Sydney vs The Western Bulldogs at Skoda Stadium on a late Saturday afternoon (5:15pm AEST)
In other news, seems that WWE Hall of Famer Sting will be performing at this year's AFL Grand Final.....
Oh wait.. they mean the singer don't they!

Greater Western Sydney vs The Western Bulldogs at Skoda Stadium on a late Saturday afternoon (5:15pm AEST) Spotless Stadium not Skoda Stadium, they changed the name from one crappy sponsor to another.

Can never remember it. Prefer to just put down non sponsor names like Subiaco, Kardina Park, Docklands Stadium, etc. But I don't even know the non sponsor name for Sko... Spotless.

Jobe Watson has finally announced he will be playing next year. The banned Brownlow Medallist* has said he intends to honor his contract with Essendon.
The Prelims in both codes start tonight. In my opinion the most exciting time of the AFL year. These matches are always mostly great (although the matches last year were not that thrilling all the way through), Almost every year in the AFL prelims there is always one close game, and one sound thrashing. Looking at history it's and the form guide that does not look good for the Bulldogs, but I hope they can defy history this time.
*as of the time of this post.

#3 Cronulla are going to the NRL Grand Final, with a 32-20 win over the defending champions #4 North Queensland. The Sharks will play the winner of Melbourne v Canberra, in their first grand final in a unified league since 1978.

And around the grounds .. the Sydney Swans have clobbered Geelong by 37 points at the MCG. Sydney make the Grand Final for the 3rd time in 5 years (every second year, quite a pattern). Geelong end their promising season in quite a wimper.. They were never really in this game.

The Western Bulldogs after a 55 year drought are going to the Grand Final. They have beaten GWS in tense match by 6 points.
Richmond now have the longest Grand Final appearance drought in the league (last appearance: 1982). Sorry I like to bag Richmond whenever I can ;D
The AFL Grand Final is now set .. Sydney Swans vs The Western Bulldogs

Guys like Whitten & Sutton would be so proud. It was 100% Bryan vs Reigns except the heroic underdog came through in the end.

Meanwhile, the Roman Reigns of the NRL, #1 Melbourne, are through to the Grand Final with a 14-12 nailbiter over #2 Canberra.
So, our two finals for the 2016 Festival Of The Boot are set, and both are long-standing benchmarks of the league against long-suffering underdogs on the verge of drought-breaking glory...
AFL: #1 Sydney Swans v #7 Western Bulldogs NRL: #1 Melbourne Storm v #3 Cronulla Sharks

The weekend keeps getting better for the Bulldogs. Their 2nds team the Footscray Bulldogs have won the VFL Grand Final at Docklands today. More good news is that Lin Jong looked good in the match aganist the Casey Scorpions (Melbourne's 2nds) and may be line to play in the AFL Grand Final now.
