Also the semi final between GWS and West Coast at Spotless Stadium drew just under 15,000 people. Which is the lowest crowd to attend an AFL/VFL Final since World War One.
It looked bad on TV with an entire upper level of a grandstand empty.
It looks like the Giants are on their to becoming a successful team on field, but as for box office... they are failing.
When it looked like the game was not selling many tickets the AFL should have gone on social media and said 'hey, free entry to G.A areas!" .. Yes they will lose money, but at least it won't look like state level pre season game crowd. FFS

Would the fact that there was an NRL game featuring a team from the exact same West Sydney market (Parramatta) going on simultaneously literally across the road be a factor in that?

Yep, and there was also international friendly women's soccer match between Australia and Brazil and drew more then the AFL final.

What would outcome will the AFL prefer with Richmond v GWS
Richmond: a success starved team with a large supporter base. Will guarantee the magic 100,000+ crowd for the Grand Final regardless of their opponent. Will get a lot interest on TV and radio wise too.
GWS: the team the AFL really wants to succeed. Don't have that strong supporter base yet. A Grand Final appearance and victory will help a lot. But it will take a lot of interest out of this years GF, their current supporters probably won't buy a lot of the tickets and make the trip. It will be historic, but will anyone other then the players abt their small supporter base care?

Cinderella wears a stetson, as #8-North Queensland continue their fairytale run with a 29-16 win over #2-Sydney. They’re going to the Grand Final to take on the mighty #1-Melbourne.

Some fun facts re AFL Grand Final:
This will be the first Grand Final since the first on in 1898 that will feature players that have not played in a Grand Final before.. so every player will be making their GF debut. in just two seasons three teams have ended the record for largest Grand Final appearance drought. Bulldogs last year, Richmond and Adelaide this year. Next three teams are Carlton, North Melbourne (both 1999) and then Melbourne (2000).
Richmond coach Damien Hardwick will become the third former coaching assistant of Alistair Clarkson after Adam Simpson (West Coast) and Luke Beveridge (Bulldogs) to get his team to the Grand Final.
This one is not so funk but a little grim but here goes: it's been 19 years since Adelaide made the Grand Final then under coach Malcolm Blight. They have been close though, the closest was in 2012 when the side coached by Bret Sanderson almost upset Hawthorn in the prelim. Since then they have had three coaching changes, Sanderson was sacked in 2014, Phil Walsh his replacement was tragically killed in 2015, and the caretaker Scott Camporelli decided not to seek the vacant coaching job, Dom Pyke the current coach took the role in 2016.
Also this will a now rare occurrence of the two head coaches both making their Grand Final debut as head coach, last time that happened was in 2005 with Paul Roos's Swans and John Worsfold's Eagles.

The Adelaide story is remarkable.
In recent years, they have lost Nathan Bock, Kurt Tippett, Phil Davis & Patrick Dangerfield. They had to go through the Phil Walsh tragedy, and they have managed to make a grand final with a team that contains zero top ten draft picks.

Richmond's Dustin Martin has won the AFL's Brownlow Medal by a big margin over the ineligible Rodney Dangerfield and nearest eligible Tom Mitchell.
In other news Gary Ablett Jr has said he wants to be traded back to Geelong from the Gold Coast. Can't blame him for that. But it was selfish of him to put himself into the news on Grand Final week. Sorry call me old fashioned, but this week should only be about the teams competing in the GF, and the Brownlow winner.

We got the teams for the NRL Grand Final:
#1-Melbourne Storm
Slater Vunivalu Chambers C. Scott Addo-Carr Munster Cronk J. Bromwich Smith McLean Kaufusi Harris Finucane --- K. Bromwich Glasby Asofa-Solomona Griffin --- Emergencies: Jacks, Rochow, Stimson, Tonumaipea
-----
#8-North Queensland Cowboys
Coote Feldt O'Neill Linnett Winterstein Martin Morgan Asiata Granville Bolton Cooper Lowe Taumalolo --- Hampton Hess Jensen Fensom --- Emergencies: Thompson, Bowen, Uele, M. Scott
Of the 17 that played in last year's runner-up Storm team, 11 will be returning (and a 12th will be on the opposition team). Somehow, North Queensland have 12 players returning from their 2015 championship team, including all but one of their back line from that game... Unfortunately for them, that one is long-time team ace Johnathan Thurston, who has been out since mid-season due to a shoulder injury.

Holy f***.
If what I'm hearing is true, then Stringer's career is done.
Note: I can't find a reliable news source that's not behind a paywall. Search google news or twitter to get a general idea of what is alleged.

Quarter time score has the Crows up by 11, 4.2.26 to 2.3.15, and they're all a bit restless leaving the field.
