We have a new NRL record for fastest time before the first try of the match has been scored. Thanks to a poorly-advised offload from Brisbane's Adam Blair on the first tackle of the game, Parramatta's Kirisome Auva'a scored in a blistering 13 seconds. 12.88 seconds thank you very much!

You've got 20+ seconds on the next best time, you can spare a tenth.

Such a good send off for Hodge last night by Hawthorn. The crowd applauded whenever he got the ball. And that spoil he did in the dying minutes when the Bulldogs were pressing was one of the loudest pops I have ever heard.
But I can feel the Dogs. Shame they could not get Bob into one last finals campaign.
And in sad news this morning former AFL,Cricket commentator and host of The Winners on the ABC (and later a flashback style series on Fox Footy) Drew Morphett has passsed away overnight at age 69. One of the great callers. RIP.

.. and that's a wrap on the 2017 AFL home and away season. And it went down to the last game with West Coast beating Adelaide by just enough to sneak into the top 8 at the expense of Melbourne... whose fans have to wait at least another year to break their finals drought.
OK not announced yet but first week of the finals should be these matches.. all dates tba:
Elimination Finals:
Port Adelaide (5) vs West Coast (8) at Adelaide Oval.
Sydney (6) vs Essendon (7) at the SCG
Qualifying Finals
Adelaide (1) vs GWS (4) at Adelaide Oval
Geelong (2) vs Richmond (3) at ,., well it has to be at the MCG. They would not put this with the expected crowd numbers at Geelong's stadium.
So South Australia with two finals. Guessing the Melbourne one will be a Friday night.
Oh and Brisbane Spoon again.. but from the looks of it, might be the last time for a while.

One round left in the NRL & the top 8 is still not set.
For what it's worth this is my prediction.
1. Melbourne 2. Roosters 3. Brisbane 4. Parramatta 5. Cronulla 6. Penrith 7. Dragons 8. North Qld
I think Brisbane will beat NQ, Penrith will beat Manly & The Dragons will beat Canterbury, that means the Dragons jump from 9th to 7th & Manly fall out of the 8.
That means my Eels have the task of playing Melbourne in Melbourne in week 1 of the finals. Not an easy assignment but the way we are playing I have hope we can do it.

AFL has had one close game (decided in double overtime and won by a goal after the final siren of that) and three comparative blowouts in their finals... NRL has had three close games with one left to play, so I hope that means Cronulla is dishing out said blowout.

Does anyone have teams still playing in any of the final series?
Anyway in the AFL I'm actually pulling for the Crows to win. Because I don't care about borders... at least S.A is a state that gives a f*** about the sport. Plus after the whole Phil Walsh tragedy, I think it will be great for the team and the sport as a whole.

Still got the Swans in the AFL. In the NRL, I'll probably default to Parramatta, Penrith or North Queensland as the underdog stories.

Brisbane eliminate Penrith 13-6, and will play Melbourne next week for a spot in the NRL Grand Final.
Meanwhile, Geelong are about a quarter away from eliminating Sydney in the AFL.

The unlikely run from 8th continues for North Queensland, eliminating Parramatta 24-16. That leaves the NRL prelim finals as such...
#1-Melbourne v #4-Brisbane #2-Sydney v #8-North Queensland

Meanwhile the Top 4 AFL teams in 2017 are the final 4. With GWS eliminating West Coast quite easily (the crowd must have got them over the line ) Prelims are set Friday Night: Adelaide vs Geelong at Adelaide Oval Saturday Twilight: Richmond vs GWS at the MCG Not been a good final series, just the one exciting game so far. Rest have been thrashings. Fun fact: If Adelaide beat Geelong, they would be the most recent Premiership team in Grand Final. It would break a 19 year duck of winning and appearing in a Grand Final. With 10 Premiership teams winning since the Crows did in 1998: North Melbourne, Essendon, Brisbane(3), Port Adelaide, Sydney(2), West Coast, Geelong(3), Hawthorn(4), Collingwood, and the Western Bulldogs. Meanwhile if Richmond win against GWS it would be their first GF appeareance since 1982. And with the Bulldogs making it last year, those 35 years are longest drought for team waiting for their next Grand Final appearence. That record could be broken two years in a row! So whose next if Richmond break that duck. Well it's actually Adelaide.. if they don't make it next week (see above paragraph) .. if not it will be both North Melbourne and Carlton who contested the 1999 Grand Final.
