I have way too many anger and mental issues to be anywhere near a gun.

Carrying a gun for "self-defense" is f***ing retarded. If you really need to defend yourself that badly, get pepper spray or a civilian model tazer or whatever, the only reason you would ever need a gun if you are prepared and fully committed to killing someone.

Here's what I don't understand about having a gun for self-defence....
If someone is already pointing a gun at me or say has a knife held right to me, how am I supposed to get my gun? You'd have to be extremely quick on the draw to get it out and shoot before the other person has already shot or stabbed you.
I mean you might be able to fire a shot afterwards but it's not really protection is it? It's just hurting the other person.
Similarly, if someone breaks into your house and has a gun. Unless the gun is right next to you (and even then it can be a process to actually get it, say if you have it locked away), it just seems like a gun would be almost useless in a lot of dangerous situations unless you know about it ahead of time.

If you can really only feel safe if you carry around a tool specifically designed to end other people's lives with you at all times, feel free, but I wouldn't want to be within the same city limits as you.

I realized for the past year I had a very sharp box cutter at my drivers door that I often used at a past job site. I often forget I have it but it may come in useful one day like picking something out of my teeth or something.

I wouldn't be opposed to having one at home. It makes me nervous thinking all of these John Wayne types who think if someone pulls out a gun and starts shooting, they're going to start shooting back, and play super hero. Just what we need is a bunch of people shooting at each other in a theater or at a mall.

I've never owned a gun and probably never will but I have absolutely zero issue with people that do. Do what makes you feel safe. Im spending my time learning how to kill a man with one punch for my own safety though.

The only thing I am concerned with is a guy who gets in a fight who is armed - who then thinks he has to use his gun to kill the guy he is fighting because the gun he has could be used on him. Introducing a gun in many situations increases risk from "may get hurt" to "possibly get killed." I understand people saying they have guns in the home to protect their family though. Oh and I've seen a bunch of people saying their arms are guns...well... SUCK ON THAT!

Well I don't own a gun but I can answer of this... A)Well of course there be spots where owning a gun is useless, but that doesn't mean it can't still provide you with more comfort of defense. If you carry Pepper spray for defense, it will be useless in those specific situation and even more. If you are with your kids at a grocery story and it's getting robbed at gun point, even if you don't want to shoot the guy, it gives you the comfort knowing even if shit goes horribly you can defend your family. B) Most people who own guns keep it in a safe in their bedroom so it's easy access if they hear a window being broken or what not. It won't take long while the robber starts to go through your stuff that you can grab your weapon and head down to confront them.

Keeping a gun safely stored for home defence is fine.
Walking around carrying one on you just strikes me as ego driven paranoia.

Guns are only OK in the context of hunting for food. I abhor the use of them in any other context.

Arrow has taught me that a bow and arrow is much more effective for some reason than firearms, so I'm just going to carry around a bow and a quiver. That surely won't be frowned upon.
