It sucked that he got injured and had to retire, but I genuinely believe Corey Graves has found his calling on commentary.
When you think of the other colour commentators the main show has; braying imbecile JBL, pointless non-entity Lawler, Graves is invested, passionate and pretty damn funny. He does exactly what he's supposed to do; makes everyone sound good. Makes the stars sound like a million bucks and makes the jobbers sound like hungry, serious threats.
They've obviously got high hopes for him, giving him spots on the pre-show panels before PPV's and his own shows on the Network and hey, from a more superficial point of view he's not exactly going to turn away any female viewers.
Corey Graves is the man. Get him on Raw.

Yep. Put him on Raw and listen as Vince turns him into JBL because that is exactly what will happen.

I'm also a big fan of commentators who stand out. Hell in the past wrestling was built by having commentators standing out by distinct personality, voice, or a look or a combination of all three.

He's easily the best commentator on any WWE show right now.

He's easily the best commentator on any WWE show right now. Him and Brennen may be the best team they've had since Cole/Taz. They have an amazing chemistry together.

Triple H direction of giving tidbits.
Vince shouting directions and saying you are the dumbest pos on earth.

What I like most is that in a sea of really just kind of generic "announcer guy" types, he's a heel commentator with a clear gimmick that isn't overriding everything around it. He gives you a reason to dislike him above just "roots for the bad guys" or "is insufferably obnoxious", and like the great heel commentators of old, can get unintentionally self-depricating or set his persona up for failure. It's a vulnerability that guys like Heenan were willing to have, but which heel Cole never really got and JBL just simply refuses to get by just yelling loudly and having the last word always.

Do not move him off NXT until Vince has buggered off to shout at clouds, somewhere.
Graves just gets what a commentator is supposed to do. I remember Mick Foley saying that he felt he owed Jim Ross as much credit as anyone, for putting him over on commentary. That's what Graves does. Even if he's heeling it up, he doesn't dismiss babyfaces (other than Enzo, but that's Enzo's gimmick anyway) as not worthy or untalented. He just likes heels more.
His ongoing vendetta against hipsters is such a good running joke. And it works on a whole bunch of levels, thanks to the smarky, irony-laden attitude of the Full Sail crowd, and to Graves' very hipster look.
Loved that gag last week about Bull Dempsey "working on his ab".

He's got a ton going for him. He was a good promo guy when he was active, he's obviously bright and witty, very into the product, and he's got a really great look, very youthful and cool and camera-friendly. I don't see how he isn't going to be very successful in the role, unless other announcers don't like him. Matt Striker certainly fell victim to that, though I think Graves is more confident and won't start trying too hard like Striker did.

It's very natural, and even when Graves is berating Brennen it's not in the "yelling real loud (/JBL)" or "make you look like an asshole (/Cole)" Kinda way. At least once per episode he makes me laugh out loud. The last show when he said that Saxton could be on assignment forever...just the way he delivered the whole schpeel had me cracking up.

I'm on record as a fan and I'm happy for him because his in-ring career ended in such an unfortunate way, you could tell he really threw himself into this new role right from that first Takeover and it's nice to see it paying off for him. He's much more popular now than when he was still wrestling in NXT.

He's brilliant. But then again almost everything in NXT is perfect.

The tricky thing is always "How does someone be a good commentator on RAW?"
It's easy to assume "Well everyone's going to be shitty on RAW with Vince in their ear". Could be completely true, but no real way to know for sure.

I agree. That last episode of NXT really showed off how well he can kinda of carry the commentary for the whole show.

I haven't heard a lot of Graves so I can't seriously judge or anything but from what I've heard of him and the NXT crew on the shows I've heard they aren't too bad at all.
I really enjoyed William Regal though. The way he analyzed things.
In the end I just miss Jim Ross. I just want someone to call matches and holds and sell the importance of what is happening at that moment.
