Alot of stuff from that 2007-2009 period is a blur nowadays, but I can still remember Manu's short run in the WWE in Legacy along with Orton, Ted. Jr and Rhodes back when everyone considered them future stars in THIS BUSINESS. (Booker T voice)
Why did they decide to release him? Orton said the reason was because he had heat backstage but that doesn't seem like the full picture. He was pretty decent in the ring and he also had the whole LOLANOAIFAMILY thing to fall back on. It always seemed like a really strange situation to me.
What are your general thoughts about Manu in terms of his potential, etc? Did the sheets ever go in depth about this?

According to Wiki, "Randy Orton later said that the reason Anoaʻi had been released "had a lot to do with his backstage attitude", and stated that Anoaʻi "didn’t feel like he had to pay his dues"."

Which is hilarious, I don't recall Orton spending years working indies in the hope of getting noticed or working as an enhancement talent on the WWE roster before getting his big push.

I give Orton a lot of shit for getting where he is due to his last name, but he WAS an lower card talent up until being selected for Evolution He got a title match against the Undertaker a month after his debut on the main roster, got injured a few months after that, and unlike 99% of the people who've ever worked for the WWE, they maintained his push while injured by giving him the RNN segments. While he wasn't thrown straight into Evolution after his debut, lets not pretend he spent years in the wilderness, jobbing to Funaki while working his way up.

and Randy Orton was always famous for his postive backstage attitude
The truth is Manu probably didn't hold his handshake long enough with the wrong person and that equalled backstage heat

My only memory of Manu is of him Cody and Orton standing really close to each other topless heavily breathing at one another.
It was a bit awkward to say the least.
I believe they even made fun of it on some show.

If he had a bad attitude and was a better wrestler (like Orton), he would have probably kept a job (like Orton). But he wasn't, and they fired him because they can't check the mail without tripping over 4 or 5 more talented Samoans lurking around.

The guy just did not fit with Legacy, you had three guys who looked like Ken dolls and a chunky Samoan.

If you ever met the guy during his run you would understand. My brother worked a few shows for Samu Afa jr big leagued the entire locker room except for my brother and two other guys he had a past with bragging about what a star he was about to become. Although I have never experienced problems with bagwell apparently it was comparable to buff which says a lot.

I think all his sins would have been forgiven if he looked more like Roman Reigns instead of a partially deflated WCW era Big Show.

I laughed at how he just stuck out like a sore thumb. You have Orton, Ted and Cody who are tall, slim, good looking like models from a clothes catalogue or whatever. Then you have fat, slobbish Manu looking all greasy and shifty.

Didn't he get caught trying to cheat a drug test using a fake penis and someone else's urine? That's what I'd always heard.
