What I mean is what are the better examples of WWE showing a superstar climb the ladder by starting from the bottom and gradually making their way up to Main Event status. Their succession at the ME level doesn't factor into my decision making too much but it is up to each persons interpretation.
A guy I would bring up that is most recent is The Miz. When they started taking him seriously on Raw once he switched to trunks he got a good gradual climb up the ladder. It started with him winning the US title, then the tag titles, and then money in the bank until he eventually won the WWE title. Each level felt like a graduation from the next and despite him being a heel the progression was good to see.
What are some of your examples of guys/girls "climbing the ladder"

I thought this would be a thread filled with gifs of people just normally climbing the ladder in ladder matches.
"Ah, yes that was a good one. Note the way he perfectly shifts weight as he raises the other leg to the next step."

I thought this was gonna be about times wrestlers didn't climb a ladder with it looking like they were made of lead.

Smaller level, but The Usos: small-time failed experiment jobbers who slowly rose up to the biggest tag team in the sport.

I thought this was gonna be about times wrestlers didn't climb a ladder with it looking like they were made of lead. The Rock's SummerSlam effort, dude acted like he was stepping on KrazyGlue, slow as he climbed. Triple H was injured, he had an excuse.

Bret and Shawn are perfect examples of this. Hell the era they came from revolved around big larger than life men and yet they still rose up.

Daniel Bryan.
Though he skipped the first few rungs by getting the US title early in his career.

Bret and Shawn are perfect examples of this. Hell the era they came from revolved around big larger than life men and yet they still rose up. With one exception to that rule. But here's one for you to think about: John Cena. -Random Kurt Angle challenge. -Languished for a bit until rapper gimmick -Rapper gimmick led to US title reigns -US title led to WWE Title -WWE Title led to 14 more reigns and pretty much Vince's golden boy.

Jeff Hardy. Jobber, to tag team run, to singles run, to THE man and most over guy in the industry Then fell from the 30 ft ladder, how did he learn that? I know TNA is a step down from WWE, but isn't it a little harsh saying its a 30-foot drop? {Spoiler}Rhetorical question. The answer is no.

HHH fits the bill. Making the right friends is all the difference.
But, alternatively, in company example, how about... Zack Ryder?
