Kurt Angle? I know it was the plan but he flew up that ladder, from wrestling Shawn Stasiak to winning the world title from The Rock in one year.

Interesting that the bonafide biggest stars didn't get that level grinding treatment:
Hogan got got the belt within like a month of his jump from the AWA.
Austin started off as a midcarder, but within mere months he won the King of the Ring and started calling out Bret Hart.
Rock got pushed right off the bat as Rocky Maivia.
Cena won the world title within 3 years of his debut, and even that win was a formality as he was a top guy even before that.
I wonder if that has to do with perception? Wrestlers who work their way up over 6-7 years might be viewed differently by some fans, who are used to seeing them as midcarders.

Sometimes people hold the perception of we need to see him grind himself up in order to gain "respect", while if you get the waiting treatment, it could be hard to buy into you once you been treated with a ceiling all those years. However, there is something to be said of watching guys like Jeff, Edge, Bubba(In TNA) rise up and become champions after we've seen them succeed at the levels they were at the years before.

Smaller level, but The Usos: small-time failed experiment jobbers who slowly rose up to the biggest tag team in the sport. Although they've paid their dues, and climbed the ladder a bit, calling the Uso's the biggest tag team in the sport is far from accurate.

It's not farfetched but for a good spell they were the most consistent tag team. Outside of New day taking over the scene lately, The Uso's held the division down.

Holding down the division is a bit different from being the biggest tag team in the sport. They were the top tag team in the WWE for a while, sure, but that does not make them the biggest/best team in the entire wrestling world. I think the Dudley's triumphant return demonstrated that.

They were for a min but I wouldn't call them that now because one has been out on injury for the last few months. However, when healthy they are one of the top tag teams in the sport.
