There's nothing I hate worse than when they take a dopey character, who is kinda dumb but at least realistically so, and then turn him/her into a complete brain dead idiot.
Hell, Screech was supposed to be a genius in the first few seasons, then he turned retarded. Homer was kinda dumb, but then became REALLY REALLY dumb. Kelly was a vapid slut, but turned into a complete and total moron by the end of the series. Same with Eric.
Vote, or come up with another option.

It's happened to both Homer and Peter Griffin, but.....its usually with comedic results so I dont mind.

Joey became a total idiot as freinds went on. Then as soon as he got his own show he smartened up again.
I also thought Kim from 24 got dumber as each season progressed. And she was pretty dumb to begin with.

Honestly...Johnny Bravo. In the first two seasons, he was reasonably stupid, but then when the animation got awful and Suzy got a f***ed up head, he turned into a drooling mongoloid. And that was stupid.

Chris from Family Guy. He's always been a half-wit, but lately he seems to have become a no-wit.

How could you forget Buddy Lembeck from Charles In Charge?
And Potsy Webber from Happy Days?
After Richie & Ralph Malph left, Potsy become a complete & total idiot with no brains at all.
And the entire cast of Charles In Charge was ruined when they added Charles' mom.

Homer Simpson. He went from a lovable doofus with at least some common sense to just a doofus.

Eric from Boy Meets World. He went from a little egotistical and not carring about getting grades in school to being a complete, braindead moron who basically couldn't function without his friends. That was one of the reasons why I stopped watching that show.

they did dumb down homer a lot, but i still think he's hilarious...
What's crazy about Kelly Bundy was in the first season (maybe first 2), she was just a s***, but her and Bud were always one-upping the insults back at each other and she seemed semi-smart... By like the 5th season, she was just outlandishly stupid...

I kinda liked "dumb Buddy" on Charles in Charge. The show took a bit of a surreal turn that I liked, almost a nudge-and-wink thing that took it (for me) from just another sitcom to something I'd actually watch.

Homer went from average-minded dad who loved his family and took them to therapy (with Dr. Marvin Monroe's "shock" chairs) to a total idiot with no heart and got raped by a panda. *frustrated sigh* they should've canceled the damn show in 2000 or sooner. The whole thing is a parody of itself.

I don't see what is wrong with the dumbing down of Homer or Eric.
I honestly didn't care for them until they had no smarts. Then Homer became my favorite TV character and Eric became the only reason to watch BMW.........FEE-NAY!

The dumbing down of Homer is definately a metaphor of how the greatest show of all time has now become borderline unwatchable.
