I feel that people are giving him way too much grief for this. Jokingly saying "I'm not a nerd I don't do that" isn't cause for such conclusion jumping, and it's funny how people are calling him a stupid jock frat boy douche in response, like that's any better.

Am I the only one who saw "Thundercat" and just thought this?
Oh sheit, it's Reigns.

The Superman question about giving it to Cena was fantastic ner...wait, I can't say that word.
I'm always more amused that Reign's does the shotgun-cock whenever he throws the punch, even if he has to quickly rush it. It'd be like HBK having to do the Sweet Chin Music foot stomp in triple-time because someone was getting up quicker than expected.

It'd be like HBK having to do the Sweet Chin Music foot stomp in triple-time because someone was getting up quicker than expected. As a natural extension of this, I'd like to see Reigns do the Superman Punch without doing the shotgun-fist-cock first, only to have his opponent no-sell it. "He forgot to load it, Maggle!"

He has been like this in interviews ever since the Rumble backlash. Before that he seemed like a cool, humble dude. Ever since he has nerd bashed and been kind of a prick. It isn't one thing, it is a behavioral pattern at this point.

It isn't one thing, it is a behavioral pattern at this point. I'm just missing where he's being a prick and not being humble. It's just a flippant remark that people are assigning so much meaning to. I like that he's himself and isn't a PR robot like Cena or Miz. If that's what people want, whatever, but I'd rather it seem like the real guy talking.

"That's what we call it, actually, so you all know. I don't know why we call it ThunderCat, but that's what we call it". In the exact same interview. "I'm not one of those nerds that names his moves" ...Daddy didn't think that one through. God bless Roman but he comes off like...well, a bit of an idiot in interviews. Further into the piece: I think the point was that he doesn't personally name his moves (e.g., Sheamus in the example above); he just uses the established term ("Superman Punch", "ThunderCat"). With that said, Reigns (and Ambrose) sound like your prototypical example of a negative jock stereotype, which isn't very endearing. I wouldn't say that much. I mean, there's a big difference between naming a few moves, like your finisher and your signature, and then there's "All Irish Everything," with the Irish Curse, the Irish Cloverleaf (the Texas Cloverleaf he rarely does, but it's an Irish Cloverleaf because FELLA), etc. Yeah, Dean Ambrose has "Dirty Deeds," but that's it. Stone Cold Steve Austin had the Stone Cold Stunner, but pretty much everything else was rather simply named. Sometimes, simple works. Hell, a little creativity works. I love Atwater's Vanilla Java Porter - I like the name and I like the taste (hell, the name highlights the taste), but if there's a beer out there called "Grandma's Secret Recipe '62," it better be the best thing I've ever tasted, otherwise it's a mouthful for no reason. tl;dr: I think y'all overreactin'.

Whilst I think some of you are taking this too much to heart, his stance is still pretty weird. Wrestling is absolutely engraved in nerd culture. The move itself is called THE SUPERMAN PUNCH, with its set-up apparently referred to as the THUNDER-CAT. Just...the mental image of a guy doing that weekly and then snickering at nerds (not just his fans, but many of his co-workers) doesn't paint a great picture of him.
Then again, there is the possibility that he merely said it off-handily and in a joking way towards his co-workers that do name their moves, and wasn't trying to rile people up. Which paints a bad picture of us for our responses here.

TECHNICALLY, him "ThunderCat"ing is not a move, just a taunt.
