The new THPS game launched today, and they finally learned what came after 4. The new game is made by Robomodo who also made the two plastic skateboard games (Shred and Ride) along with the HD game from a few years back. I have the privilege of reviewing this for Diehard Game Fan, and am downloading it now. At any rate, if you have questions, shoot them my way, or just talk about the game. I also strongly suggest you check out info before you buy this. Buyer Beware. edit: adding a link to my review. diehardgamefan.com/2015/10/05/review-tony-hawks-pro-skater-5-sony-playstation-4/

I have it on request from the library so I will check it out, apparently Robomodo as Neversoft for tips.

I'm sure it's okay. Just okay. Worth $15. I actually liked HD well enough though, so I'm in the minority. Certainly not worth what they're charging.

The limited bit of review info trickling out, as they didn't send out pre-release review copies, is that it's glitchy as all f*** even with the 7.7gb patch. IT's not looking good, which is disappointing

Well if you buy it on disc it only has the tutorial and park maker apparently, if you have no net connection that is what you get for $60.

Do kids even know who Tony Hawk is these days?

I lost interest in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5 when they said there was no story mode but even still, it's pretty sad to know how far the series has fallen since American Wasteland (which I still play and love by the way).

yeah... I have only seen that it's a glitchy mess and there is like nothing on disk...
sad because I loved the Tony Hawk games... even the later ones like project 8... never played their attempts to cash in on Guitar Hero though.

It feels like a franchise that's time was gone long and ever ago. Do we really need a new one?

I preordered this in full a month ago but haven't picked it up. I wonder what Gamestop's return policy is on titles paid for a month in advance. Is point of purchase release day or payment day?
Looks botched, which is unfortunate.

THPS 3 is nearly perfect from a game play standpoint and that type of stuff never goes out of style. That is why we can still have Tetris, yeah a lot of them suck, but when it hits, man, nothing feels better.

True. And as long as they don't go back down the rabbit hole of broken peripherals, then that's at least a step in the right direction.

It feels like a franchise that's time was gone long and ever ago. Do we really need a new one? Tony was smart and, when the series was at it's apex, he signed like a 15~20 year deal with Activision (probably with tons of money going to Hawk if Activision wanted to break it early and vice-versa) so they've been trying to find a way to use that license ever since (the plastic board games, the HD remix, THPS 5 and that mobile game) as not using it is basically giving Tony Hawk money for nothing. Also, if you want to know how confident Activision was in this game, Giant Bomb mentioned on their podcast that the internal PR team wasn't handling this game and it was instead their external team that used to do the Activision Value line back in the day.

Suddenly I'm not so upset that they didn't announce a PC release for it. I'll stick with all the games up to American Wasteland for the Gamecube instead.

The thing that gets me about the post-American Wasteland Tony Hawk games is that it shouldn't be that hard to make a decent skating game. Every game from 1 to American Wasteland was just improvements on the previous game and they were great because the gameplay was already fun to begin with and they just added to it. If Activision legitimately wants to make a good Tony Hawk game, they should just go back to what worked and build from there.
