It was like they knew they needed an excuse for him when he lost one of the belts and being tired from two straight title matches was a good idea. They forgot however that Cena was going for the US Title and not the World until the day of and at that point just said "f*** it".

- Sting, forever known as a "WCW wrestler, was unable to beat a WWE wrestlers who just lost a match, ergo WWE > WCW
- Rollins lost one match to lose the minor title but was able to retain the major title immediately after, and thusly is tough and should be respected as a credible champion
- since Rollins was able to beat Sting after already wrestling another match, and Cena was able to beat Rollins when he was fresh, then by the transitive property Cena could beat Sting in a squash and should be hailed as the greatest wrestler of all time

To make it absolutely clear that Seth Rollins could even beat Sting after being defeated by Cena and assaulted post match by Cena.

I wonder if Sting wasn't supposed to win but someone called an audible after he got hurt? Putting the two matches back to back make more sense if you are making it plausible for Sting to sneak out a win, and gives Seth something to gripe about afterwards.

I think it's because Trips is secretly waiting to ditch him for Sheamus. Regardless who won that WWE Title match, Sheamus was gonna cash in and pick the bones (until Kane spared us from it got in the way).
