I am able to listen to ipod or phone while working. I am a Pharmacy technician so I am on my feet all day, I go through a lot of ear buds because they bend in my pocket and the wires break. Although I only use cheap sets from dollar stores because they break so often I am hesitant to buy a "good" pair only for them to break as well.
Any recommendations for a really durable pair

I've heard Skull Candy ones break easily, but I am not positive about it. I don't have much more luck than you do with them, I seem to always have one stop working while the other's alright.

Skull Candy are AWFUL. They're cheap and are of averge sound quality so I buy them often, which I need to do because my baby is a jerk. Slight rip, pull, bite, or tug... and I'm off to buy a new pair because one of the buds is dead. So avoid that brand.

I have always had good luck with skull candy. I've had the same pair for almost 3 years. Although this year I may replace them (same brand, different color) when I buy a new iPod.

I don't use earbuds because for some reason the just won't stay put. I use cheap Phillips-brand headphones that hang over the ear, the ones with 'bass boost' and a hole through them so I can hear the real world. They were about $15 (CDN) at Walmart. The work fine for going about my day.
At night when I need some peace and quiet and a little music, though, I use big over-the-ear headphones. I find that with the little ones, if I have the music down low I can hear an electric 'hiss' when there's no music playing (between songs). With the big headphones I don't get that.

I've gone through a few skull candy ear buds. They do have a habit in breaking pretty often.

I've had awful luck with earbuds, I'd barely have them a month or two before the left side stopped working entirely, which defeated the purpose. I decided to go to Walmart and buy some called iFrogz that promised a lifetime warranty and I've had them about seven months now and they're still working perfectly. So if you can wear noise muffling earphones, then I'd definitely suggest them.

I can't stand earbuds, hate having something in my ear, but I bought a pair of Black Web ear phones, really like them. They make buds too, worth checking out maybe. Got mine at Wal Mart for maybe $30.

I got some cheep off brand $20 earpiece headphones and are still going 9 months later. I wish I could remember the brand for them because the sound quietly is really good for what I payed for too.

I got a pair of Sony ones a few years back, splashed out £25 for them because I was fed up of shit ones breaking. Going on about 4 years now, with no problems, touch wood.

I bought a pair a Phillips surround sound ear buds from Walmart for $20 about 8 years ago that are still going strong. When (if?) they give out I'll be looking for another pair close to them.

I bought some M&M earbuds online for like $10 a year or two ago and they still sound good.

When I'm not busy in court with my friend Phil or listening to my friend Cliff regale me with tales of his travels to Nigeria, I like to use tweaked audio ear buds!!!

The white apple earphones work well for me, should be on the first page when you search earphones on Amazon.
A proper sound enthusiast could probably find a better pair but these are certainly better than cheap dollar/pound store ones.

I use "Yurbuds" pretty exclusively for earbuds and they always work well for me.

Go to Wal-Mart and buy a brand called Neon. You won't regret it.

I'm the same way... I just use regular headphones because they will stay put much more reliably than any type of earbud. They just seem to like to work their way out of my ear, and the only way to make them stay put is to shove them so far in my ear hurts.
