I remember when everyone was longing for the returns of Ivan Putski, Bruno Sammartino, Jimmy Snuka and the Samoans during the Attitude Era!

I know its nigh impossible, but I'd still mark out bro if Cult of Personality started blaring over the loudspeakers Don't kid yourself, it'll happen. Punk's MMA thing is increasingly becoming a pipe dream, and he probably knows it. He walked out because he realized he could get a lot more money being a "returning star", not unlike Batista. He'll wait until HHH gets desperate enough to say the right amount of money for the right amount of dates, and bingo, there we are.

Yeah it's kinda sad the way they keep bringing these guys out, but it's understandable in a way because they are relics from the last time that wrestling was really over. They weren't trotting pre-Hulkamania guys out to huge pops during the Rock & Wrestling era and they weren't bringing back New Generation guys during Attitude. It's just evidence that they have not been able to turn out new stars, because Vince still believes he was the reason why they became stars in the first place.

They keep bringing them back to duplicate when wrestling was hot, yet at the same time they are too stupid to realize that these guys were so popular at the time because they were fresh and new.
Imagine the Attitude Era if wrestlers from the 70's kept coming back and beating Stone Cold, The Rock, The New Age Outlaws, The Hardys, The Dudleys, etc. Those guys would have never had the chance to become legends themselves. That's why we don't have any current guys like that now.
Vince was forced at that time to create new stars because he didn't have many. He's in the same situation again, but instead of making new stars they just keep bringing back the old ones. It's the problem WCW had that they've spent the last decade making fun of. It's what TNA tried to do and it got them nowhere. Yet here they are, doing it anyway like morons.
They say the true definition of insanity is doing the same thing again and expecting different results. This company is truly insane.

I remember when everyone was longing for the returns of Ivan Putski, Bruno Sammartino, Jimmy Snuka and the Samoans during the Attitude Era! Yeah. Those great Raw crowds when The Rock was trying to cut a promo and they would chant "DON MU-ROC-O! *clap clap clap-clap-clap*"

Full disclosure? I wouldn't...absolutely hate a Heidenreich return. For a big, goofy stiff with no real skills....he always entertained me.

I just can't believe the company's official line is 'geez, wasn't this better in the 90's when all the guys who now can't be bothered to appear more than a handful of times a year were always around?' It's so blatantly self-destructive and, if his Austin interview was anything to go by, Vince blames the current generation for their inability to draw. It genuinely doesn't seem to have occurred to him that they've not had a fraction of the opportunity that the stars of the Attitude Era had, largely because the stars of the Attitude Era keep coming back and making them look like shit.

They literally havn't made anyone since 2002 except Brock, Cena, Batista and Orton. They are all currently on the main roster except Batista and he doesn't really bring the buzz that a Rock, Stone Cold or Hogan would. They are f*****. Batista popped a decent Raw rating when he first came back. Once. I think the angle they brought him back for killed the interest.

It's what TNA tried to do and it got them nowhere. Yet here they are, doing it anyway like morons. They say the true definition of insanity is doing the same thing again and expecting different results. This company is truly insane. There's a few major differences between what WWE is doing now and what WCW did with veteran talent. WCW brought in veteran talent that was still hot and could still perform at a high level, and in most cases used them in a way they had never been used before or repackaged them completely. Also, regardless of what anyone says, the veteran talent was used to elevate and grow new talent. One could argue that maybe they didn't do it fast enough - certainly many of the wrestlers felt this way, but the truth is that the veteran talent made the stage bigger for the young talent to get over and become superstars, which is exactly what happened, and exactly what wouldn't have happened if the veteran talent wasn't there. WWE's approach is entirely different. They continually bring back veteran talent who haven't been on the radar for years, are no longer draws, are no longer capable of performing at a high level for 1 match, let alone a full time schedule, and who are not used in any capacity that is innovative or different from the past. The entire purpose seems to be a nostalgia treat for the fans, because we supposedly want to see guys who are too old/too fat/too out of shape to get in there and lock horns with the current roster. I love most of these older guys but in many cases it's demeaning to them and to the young talent they have.

Sadly, it works because the reaction (even here) it gets is "Dood, old person! Give him the belt!". Part of the point in it though surely? The hype, the big name status... anything for a buzz or ratings.

Yeah, Batista's return was fine until they made it clear that he was wrestling for the WWE WHC instead of Daniel Bryan.

It makes sense, but I just can't see Punk being the type to swallow his pride and come back, especially with Triple H running the show. He is a very stubborn, prideful person, it's a big part of his entire identity. I could see him doing select indy or international dates before making a WWE comeback.
