He doesn't work as friendly Fall Out Boy fan, or whatever he's supposed to be these days. He seemed to excel at vicious/disturbed emo-ish dude though.

As a guy whose always been a fan of him and respects the hell out of him for getting himself in position to be signed by WWE, the issue is that in style what he wants to do in the ring just doesn't work in WWE as he's noticeably too small. As others have mentioned he needs to go back to being more unhinged and crazy like he was as "The New Horror of Professional Wrestling" where he got over because the feeling was he was crazy and that people didn't want to fight him because they knew he'd do anything to hurt his opponent.

He's a orange midget in a 1930s womens bathing suit with a Jericho ring jacket.

Guy's very good and still very young. He just needs to find a gimmick that suits him and a microphone put in front of him. He's got a heap of untapped potential on NXT. They just need to work out what they want from him.

''Everyone I hang out with turns out to be racist!'' Should be his gimmick.

His look is awful. The worst tan I've ever seen and the attire was dreadful.
I do think the hacker gimmick has some potential. I think he should be a Raven type character however.
edit: I just realised his surname is 'Crowe'. Yep a Raven character is ideal!

His style doesn't translate well. On the Indies he was a brutal, stiff brawler who beat the daylights out of people. Doesn't work as well in the WWE

''Everyone I hang out with turns out to be racist!'' Should be his gimmick. Break up the Dudleyz so Bubba can do his heel shtick, then Devon can start hanging out with Crowe. Devon gets a Clayton Bigsby gimmick.

I think he was kind of second-tier as an indy guy, never really got put over at the bigger events.
Plus he's basically Jimmy Jacobs lite, at best. I honestly see nothing in the guy. His main contribution is donating his first name to Zayn.

There's nothing to really latch on to, his gimmick is underutilised (I still think it could work), his look is just odd and the only part of his move-set that stands out is his rope headbutt thing which is cool but should never have been used as a finisher.
That said I really liked his recent(ish) match with Dillinger, it felt unique in a way most matches don't (I can't quite describe what I mean).

One of his appeals on the indies was that he was an alternative to those indie stars that pee-pants fans weren't around to be the first on the bandwagons for. So some of those people had to start their own hype train for someone who wasn't in the initial cut of "indie greats." Cue Solomon Crowe pre-NXT.
Note: that's just one of his appeals and I'm not making a case that all pre-NXT Crowe fans were that way. But I've not heard it stated on here so I figured why not. When ROH and PWG stars that have since "made it" or evolved were the bee's knees, Solomon Crowe was kind of the Carson Daly to those other guys' Tonight Show/Late Show. Some indie fans just die if they don't have their own identity, and while he has talent and is a great/hard worker, he's not in the same league as some of the other NXT indie signees. He never was.
I like the guy. But he's more attuned to being a role player than "the guy" in any sense of the term. This is a guy that the hype train has damaged. Because he shouldn't have been rumored by indie fans to be more than he ever actually was.

Crowe is a guy who could make up the numbers in the mid card, something that NXT sorely lacks. And NXT's lack of a mid card is arguably a lot more apparent than the main roster. He just loses to everyone when he should be having some type of feud with another mid-level talent, even if that feud never culminates in a TakeOver match.

He's a short fat guy that isn't a good enough worker to make up for his poor look. Like one of the first posters said, he's just simply not that good. Nothing against him as he seems like a cool guy in real life, just telling it the way it is.

I made that comment you quoted and I'm on severe lack of sleep and cranky, so I sound a little more airy about my words than I meant to. I like Callihan/Crowe. But I think I would've come across better just saying that I'm not surprised he's not excelling. You're absolutely right that he is no jobber by any means. A feud with Breeze, a feud with Crews, a feud with Gable would make sense. At the same time, I really appreciate NXT's willingness to pace how they showcase and who they showcase when. They're allowing me to miss and/or wonder about guy, and that is a surefire way to lure me in to liking or showing interest in him when he actually does appear.
