Darrell Waltrip. Went 7 years without winning races, eventually started missing so many NASCAR had to put in the past champion's provisional for him to make it into the field. I think in like 1997 he ended up using that like 20 times in the 32 race season A lot of that was also down to Darrell trying to run his own team on a shoestring budget as well. He had some decent runs when he substituted for Steve Park in 1998 and very nearly won at Pocono. On a similar Nascar note I'll suggest Richard Petty. Won his last race in 1984 and stayed around for eight years afterwards, yes there were some decent runs here and there but it was a pale shadow of the man who dominated for so long in the sixties and seventies. I remember DW saying in his book the biggest mistake he ever made was not taking a discounted Hendrick engine deal in the early 90's. Hendrick proceeded to win four straight championships in 1995-1999

In terms of coaching, Brian Clough at Nottingham Forest.
He had guided Forest to two European Cups, a League Championship and 4 League Cups in the 70's and 80s, but his final years at the club will always be remembered for his alcoholism, shady financial affairs and getting the once best team in Europe relegated from the Premier League.

Probably will get some heat for this, but I think Martin Broduer should've retired 2 years before he finally did last season. why would you get heat for speaking the truth? I always felt kinda bad for Chris Chelios continuing to play in the AHL well into his forties when nobody in the NHL wanted him anymore.

Shaq. Really a shame a player of his caliber had so many one year garbage runs with different teams
