I am so confused to why they did this.
Literally half their show at one point was X-Div matches.
To be an alternative to the WWE you have to offer something different, instead the majority of the show is just a bunch of muscular guys who are not as good as anyone in the WWE. It is like watching a way worse version of the WWE right now.

Part of to me was them moving Joe, AJ and Daniels to the World Title scene or tag scene and the people they replaced them with just weren't as captivating. Now that also falls into the period where they were told to just be "like a video game" and went all spotty so it was fun to watch but was all a blur so no one rally stood out. I think the KOs also took off shortly after that so they got the focus the X Division had so the X further suffered.

IF they had stayed focused on the X-Division and the KO's they would have been a proto-NXT. So of course they f***ed it up.

Think they went and overthought it, really. They harped on about "it's not about weight limits, it's about no limits" thing and it was such a visual draw, it didn't really need explaining. One of the few logical sidesteps you kinda forgive, but yeah, they got all convoluted between the weight limit, the video-game thingy, the odd nostalgia for a division that still existed, the works....really.
You still could've had your traditional heavyweights on top, a la sports entertainment, and the X as a kinda different style business it succeeded as in the past, kinda like a loose brand-split, but poops, there goes the rainbow.

Eventually the big wigs in TNA had to feel this way after a while because no excuse for how a thriving division like that took such a nosedive to that extent when it was essentially the life blood of your company.

I think the beginning of the end was Option C. After that it stopped being a prestigous championship and instead became a quick holdover until you had your TNA Heavyweight championship match. The X-Division scene really hasn't been the same since.

The X-Division scene really hasn't been the same since. Option C should be such a great thing for the X-Division. Throughout the year, its such an easy way to being talent in, because in kayfabe, they know they have a certain path to breaking the glass ceiling. Then in the lead up to Destination X, every athlete in the company eligible to take part in the X-Division should be scrambling to become the top contender in the division. The storylines practically write themselves. In practice, TNA just puts the title on whoever they want to get a title shot, and they don't care about the Division in the other 11 months of the year.

Hogan and Bischoff tried to kill it with the weight limit, then Aries saved it, now the only x division guy they have is Tigre Uno, he just doesn't have anyone to work with. Mandrews and Everett aren't even full time.

Outside of Aries, would any X-Division regular really have been worthy of the world title? They tried. But then Fail Sabin happened.

The X Division was the reason to watch TNA. Watching breath-taking action that you couldn't see anywhere else, and especially not in the WWE. This was the main selling point. Everybody knew it. Except TNA obviously.

Well, if they didn't let go of all the guys they built up in the X-Division like Bad Influence and the aforementioned Sabin (who only really became a joke because of his awful title reign), this would be less of an issue. Even then, I would have rather had Rockstar Spud win the title this year than have Angle retain it.

Kurt Angle came along, and he became a top priority to them, way above the X-Division.
Now it's been completely shattered and a shell of itself in every way. Having its own intro on the show makes it feel like a sideshow act to the rest of the card and that's not a good thing.

One of the dumbest things they ever did.
You don't ditch one of your unique selling points if your supposed competition is neglecting the very thing you are providing the audience as an alternative.
