I wasn't able to watch SMW when it was going on because I was just a little kid and live in the Northeast. It wasn't until within the last couple of years that I started to research on SMW and found myself really interested in viewing the shows and writing reviews for my blog, Wrestling Recaps. Currently, I am up to October 1993 and I seen some really enjoyable stuff. I'm curious to see if anyone here is also a fan of SMW. Did you watch while they were in business? Anything good or bad that I haven't gotten to yet? Have questions about the company that I could possibly answer? If you have never heard of SMW, you can read my reviews at www.wrestlingrecaps.com/smwThey had some top talent including Sunny, Chris Candido, Brian Lee, Kevin Sullivan, Tracy Smothers, Tim Horner, Dirty White Boy, Bob Armstrong, Rock N' Roll Express, Heavenly Bodies, and many more that I haven't come across yet! Hope to have some discussion about SMW!

I'm currently watching the tv show on youtube, and man....I'm only through the first 11 episodes or so, but it is dire. I'm trying to stick with it though.

SMW was something I watched as a kid on a local TV station that no longer exists on Saturday afternoons (it was that, USWA, and WCW Worldwide in a 3-hour block). Loved it. Found an old episode where Tracy Smothers' love of the Rebel flag was the selling point of a blood feud between he and the Dirty White Boy.

Yeah, I thought it was ironic how recently the flag was seen as offensive and whatnot and I was watching a feud with one guy defending the honor of it.

Weirdly enough, I somehow managed to catch their TV show a couple of times when I was living in Japan as a kid in the mid-90s. WCW was easier to find than WWF on our TV in Japan, but surprisingly enough, SMW managed to get in there as well. I remember a few matches, one with Lance Storm, and one with The Sandman (don't remember who their opponents were). I liked it as a kid, but haven't gone back to watch it before.

Oh, yeah, in one early episode(I wanna say episode 9?) "White Lightning" Tim Horner sings a Garth Brooks cover in an interminably long biography segment. So....that happened.

Rick Rubin helped put up money for it. That's kinda nuts.
I didn't get a chance to see it being in the Northeast also, but I did read a lot about it in the Apter mags, and watch episodes now. I really enjoy Caudle-Mantel as commentators. It always has an NWA 1986 B-Show in a High School Gym quality, which is a good thing.

Their best years were 1993 & 1994. If you enjoy the shows, I strongly recommend finding copies of the yearly Fan Week Q&A sessions with Cornette. Lots of background and insight on the promotion. There were at least 3 of them, and were pretty well circulated by tape traders at the time.

it's fun to see the guys who later worked for WWF doing different gimmicks like 'Hollywood' Bob Holly and Unabomb

At SMW they booked the most violent angle I've ever seen.
It started off cheesy as f***, that someone threatened to take out Brian Lee. They even send him a tombstone. It was only said that the master was behind it.
The Master turned out to be Kevin Sullivan, and he spiked the f*** out of Lee. Like 30 times. Lee was bleeding and selling it, both faces and heels tried to save him but Sullivan's followers prevented them, even the cameraman and announcer tried to intervene.
To top it all off, Bullet Bob Armstrong, who was the comissioner, gave Brian Lee CPR. The fans just stood there in silence.

There was one where Sullivan spiked the holy heck out of Japanese wrestler Kintaro "W*ING" Kanemura that I've got on a 'bloodiest matches' compilation.

Yeah from watching Sullivan's different shoots, Kanemura was extremely greatful after the match because it elevated him in Japan. I wonder what did those fans thought about those hardcore matches? They were really casual, like they still believed in it. Wonder if they called the polcice on Kevin Sullivan.

I love SMW, went to a few live shows back in the day. Mr. Ron Wright as a wheelchair bound manager is one of the greatest things in the history of the business.

I've seen SMW on Youtube. I wish the WWE Network had it but only because I'd love subtitles. I'll have to go back and watch again.
My favorite parts are Hollywood Bob Holly and the fact that Buddy Landel came out to the hit song of the time, "I'm Too Sexy" at a show back in 92.

I just finished watching the second year of SMW. Dirty White Boy is coming across like a complete star to me at this point. He is buyable as a heel and effective as a face in his feud with Brian Lee. Looks like I'm close to the start of the Smothers/Candido feud, which features ladder matches.
Other stuff apparently going on in '94. Jake Roberts enters the company. Cactus Jack works a few months towards the end of the month. The Gangstas and their controversial angle. I'm looking forward to those. I have a few handheld shows for that year that will be fun to watch, as well.

Never really watched SMW, but I read Jericho's book when I was in the 7th grade, and Bruiser Bedlam is one of my favorite book characters ever. Me and my group of friends from grade school still regularly ask each other if we're "true to the crew"
