I didnt think much of him at first, but his style grew on me, and he was a whole lot better than Shamrock (who he was compared to). Head Cheese was great too, and his run as hardcore champion helped give that title back some legitimacy after crash holly's goofy (though fun) run.

He really came into his own the last year or so he was in the WWF. It's always sucked to me that he was out the door right before the Invasion angle, because Blackman vs. RVD for the Hardcore Title would have been outstanding.

Definitely one of the unsung heroes of the attitude era....a silent bad-ass hardcore killing machine. While I was a fan of Shamrock (hometown boy), I will also admit that Steve was a better grappler in that aspect.
Oh, how I would mark the f*** out if he came out during a random Raw, Smackdown, or NXT, and just start cracking bitches with the sticks.

I wanted a stable of him, Shamrock, Severn destroying the rest of the roster. Shame it never happened.

I thought the guy was awful back then. Now when I watch his stuff, I agree with my younger self. He had nothing going on during a normal match, and his hardcore matches were a big part in laming up the whole concept. I especially hated that suplex he'd do while holding one of his sticks in his hand, it was so pointless.

Blackman was very believable in his quiet badass role. I wish they had done more with him.
Hell, I'd love to see some segments between Blackman and Low Ki. I think that would be hilarious.

He really seems to prefer the mostly quiet life he has now.
I've seen the truck for his bail bondsman business in town quite a few times, and ran into him grocery shopping once.
Pretty much nobody here knows who he is (though he's lived here pretty much his entire life), so he never gets bothered out in public.

We all miss Steve Blackman. That's how quick his reflexes are.
He nails us with that bicycle kick every time, though.

One of the most quietly frightening dudes in wrestling history. He was somebody you had no trouble believing was a real badass. He wasn't huge, he wasn't loud, but you just KNEW that that dude could f*** you up if you looked at him wrong.

The way they treated Blackman always confused me, because they were always so damn insecure about his lack of charisma, but LOOK at the guy; he bleeds charisma. He disproves the old chestnut that "In the Attitude Era, they really knew how to play to everyone's strengths!" They had no idea what to do with him.

Steve Blackman was my favorite Hardcore Champion. Watching him fend off 24/7 challengers by kicking ass entertained me more than the constant hot potato-ing of the title.

I didn't think anything of him, and then his straight man schtick in Head Cheese and (much more) his Hardcore champ run did turn me around.
The guy had all the animal charisma of a wooden plank, and the mic skills to match, but the hardcore stuff fit him like a glove and Shane killing himself to get that over was great. That Summerslam 2000 bout is lots of fun.

It's always sucked to me that he was out the door right before the Invasion angle, because Blackman vs. RVD for the Hardcore Title would have been outstanding. He was actually under contract through the whole Invasion, but was sidelined with an injury for the majority of it. He wrestled tag matches down at HWA for a couple of months towards the end of the Invasion (October until December) while getting back in ring shape but was reinjured and didn't wrestle again before his contract expired in October '02. A hardcore match with RVD would've been great though.

I wasn't a huge fan. The guy was just "there" to me and I like wrestlers with a bit of personality.
