I don't hate Del Rio, but if his re-hiring is really just so they can have a strong Hispanic wrestler in their roster then I have to ask; what about Kalisto? This kid is as good as Rey Mysterio ever was. I know it might be difficult to build him up since their is no cruiserweight division anymore and it would definitely take longer than building up Del Rio but I would like to see them give Kalisto a shot.

I think they do like Kallisto a lot, but isn't he still pretty young? I forget, but I figure Sin Cara is trying to mentor him.

On Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer said they've given up on Kalisto being their top Hispanic babyface.
Dave said they thought the "Lucha! Lucha!" chants would get over more, and since they haven't, he's basically considered a failure.

Lucha!" chants didn't get as over as they wanted. Just ignore the crowd going nuts for Kalisto's offense. Good old WWE.

How do they expect a guy in a tag team in a division not taken seriously who loses as much as he wins is going to get over?

Kalisto is great, but he can't talk anywhere near as well as Del Rio, and he's been saddled with a dead-end partner for the longest time, he'd have a lot of rehabilitation to do, maybe another stint in NXT to gain a fresh new character.

I'm not convinced they'll have one any time soon because they don't seem interested in pushing the kind of people the Hispanic crowd is actually into. And they seem to reeeeeally not get what that crowd wants, given Alberto's face run's slogan was basically, "I'm from Mexico, but I'm glad to be gone! USA! USA! USA!"

It likely rankles Vince's frankles (whatever those are) that the sort of person they'd be into is more likely to trash everything about the US every chance that they get. It also doesn't help that, oh, I don't know, not all Hispanic people are exactly the same, and for example, Mexicans and Puerto Ricans do NOT particularly like each other at all.

Mexican America stable with Alberto, Lucha Dragons (incl ARCH ENEMY SIN CARA!!!), Jack Swagger (Owen Hart role) and Carlito (throw in Thea Trinidad ffs) will determine who WWE's true Hispanic topstar will be

And they seem to reeeeeally not get what that crowd wants, given Alberto's face run's slogan was basically, "I'm from Mexico, but I'm glad to be gone! USA! USA! USA!" In addition to that...is it about time to accept that the WWE Universe is kind of, sort of...biased about this? I know it's going to sound controversial about finding a star for an important section of the WWE audience, and I'm trying not to sound "backwards" in saying it, so I'll just say it. The WWE Universe, as a majority, refuses to accept a new star from this group, and it is solely because they of their prejudices against them because these new stars are... ...Not WCW alumni.Seriously, can we just admit it? It's become clear by now the WWE Universe will only accept a top luchador if they worked in WCW in the past, and the fact that Gabe Sapolsky famously hated lucha libre led to none of the top luchadors of the 2000s/2010s being able to really make a name for themselves in the United States on the independent circuit. TNA very rarely brought in luchadors outside of the World X-Cup (and WWE did bring in 2006 World X-Cup members Magno [not even on NXT live events yet] and Incognito/HuniCara as the best they could do). As a result, the cupboard is pretty bare for big-name lucha standouts that broke out in United States promotions enough to have the potential to be the next big Hispanic star...and the fact that LLUSA bombed made things harder for a while in US promotions. No matter how hard the WWE scours Mexico to find the next great Mexican star, how great the pipeline from Carlos Colon pans out to get top Puerto Rican talent, or even if the WWE scours South America to find top talent there- it's time to accept: The only chance WWE has of finding a top Hispanic star of the future is if Lucha Underground becomes enough of a success to give the LU superstars a buzz that can be exploited by WWE.

The problem is that the wwe wants a flag waving, pandering hispanic hero that they can tour mexico with instead of a tremendous performer who happens to be hispanic. Rey and eddie got over huge by being themselves. They were embraced by everyone, but were over with hispanics because they were GREAT, not because they pandered to nationalistic pride. The WWE doesn't understand. There's got to be more to their characters than "look at me, I'm hispanic, so love me."

I remember reading something not too long ago about WWE wanting a lucha guy to be their next big Hispanic star, with the caveat that said lucha guy had to be over 6'0 tall and weigh over 200 lbs. This would leave out a vast, vast majority of lucha guys, as well as Kalisto.

It didn't sound like the crowd on Raw particularly cared about Del Rio so I'm not convinced that he's their next big Hispanic star either.

They need to stop trying to make the next Eddie or Rey and let someone develop without those comparisons.

The second Alberto disparagingly referred to Neville as an immigrant, all I could think was, "Oh good, they've tanked their attempts to turn him into their top Latino star again." I genuinely don't think Vince understands the demographic he's trying to court at all.

I like Kalisto...but "as good as Mysterio ever was"? Not even close. Rey Mysterio had more good matches...Im talking blood feud type stuff, main eventing and drawing $$$, re-inventing a whole genre...a flag bearer, pioneer, and breakout star...all before he was 25. What has Kalistio ever done to be mentioned in the same breath as Rey? No disrespect intended, because I like him...but that's a waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay off base comparison.
