Just found out about this guy. So he was working in AJPW and indies for a bit, WWE gave him a developmental in 2010 then released him quickly, then he goes back to AJPW to tear shit up and became one of the best gaijin in the business.
Man, you gotta wonder what the hell was wrong with the developmental system before the Performance Center/NXT came around when talents like Kenny Omega, EC3, and Joe Doering just slipped through the cracks.
Can you see WWE giving this guy another shot? Would he fit on the roster?

I'd like to see him get another shot, I remember when they signed him I figured he was kind of a can't miss prospect as sort of a version of Nigel McGuiness without the injury concerns and then he just barely appeared and was gone in the blink of an eye. He can go in the ring and has the size and look that WWE likes, it is strange it didn't work out.

Doering at the time was not that good and kinda injury prone. During that time in developmental, a lot of wrestlers either were too mediocre to standout from the crowd or did not like how things were run. Kenny Omega left WWE because the latter. Sometimes getting released is what lights a fire in someone to prove their critics and doubters wrong.

A lot of guys slipped through the cracks in that mid 00s early 10s period. Including a lot of midcarders who did end up getting called up

I love Joe Doering! Always reminded me a lot of Mike Awesome.
For a while he was also the ONLY gaijin in AJPW. Pretty weird given how much AJPW used to depend on foreign talent. I think he might still be their only gaijin actually.

The local indy I used to go to booked Joe Doering and Jon Bolen quite a bit. Always thought both guys would be signed by WWE and can't believe neither guy made it to the full time roster in the last decade.

Yup it's like that in sports when a prospect gets cut or traded in a throwaway trade and rebounds in a epic manner next season or the season after. When asked what caused the turn around the answer is almost always "the moment I got cut I realized it was a wake up call to train harder and get better."
