If you've been following online wrestling discussion over the past few days you've no doubt of this Dragon Gate match getting rave reviews across the board. It features brutal asshole heel champion Shingo Takagi defending his Open the Dream Gate Title against DG veteran and, let me emphasise this, FORTY FIVE YEAR OLD challenger Masaaki Mochizuki. This is one of the best I recall Dragon Gate producing in quite a while. Mochizuki has always been a guy you could rely on to deliver, but even then you have to consider the advanced level this guy can still wrestle to at his age. It cannot be understated that someone his age should not be able to do the things he does, and wrestle at such a breakneck speed. On the other sidee of the ring you have Shingo Takagi, who has generally been hit or miss throughout his career. He's a solid performer and does have great matches, but he has never been able to connect with the fans. If this is anything to go by, this is his star making run. He's a natural heel, and has never felt like he's had as much fire as he does now. Anyway, if you're interested it's well worth watching. The match is around 25 minutes, but includes post match promos which if you want to watch and follow are summarised here.

Great match, and now they've set up another Takagi vs. a veteran match-up with Gamma shortly. This has to all be leading to T-Hawk eventually taking Dream Gate away from Shingo, right?

Not T-Hawk at all. The way I see it, it's either Tozawa who ends the reign of Shingo to capture his first Dream Gate OR it'll be Hulk at Kobe World to avenge both his loss at a previous Kobe World where he lost his hair AND avenge his shoulder that Shingo and VerserK attacked that put him out on the shelf.

I expect it to be either Tozawa or T-Hawk myself. They're at least two defenses that have to happen before Shingo drops the belt. CIMA will also likely be the challenger at Final Gate to finish the Shingo vs. the veterans story.

He's remarkably bland and compared to the rest of the roster, he'd be a bad choice. Maybe down the line but just now, I don't see it whereas I can definitely see Tozawa getting the strap soon.

Well they stayed the course with Shingo beating CIMA, so they're not adverse to sticking with long term booking and then righting the ship if it fails to catch on immediately after. I just think they see a lot in T-Hawk as a viable top guy, and the attraction of having a battle of two bruisers like him and Takagi is that it's pretty unique to DG. Personally I'd prefer Tozawa winning, as that match has a much stronger and emotionally tying story to it. Either way, I'm just going to enjoy the ride. This recent run is the freshest DG has felt to me in a while.

I've been meaning to check out more Dragon Gate, I've only seen the one show with my dad but it was up there with some of the more batshit insane shows that I've seen.
