And to think Ovechkin did that in 475 less games than Federov. There is a real darkhorse chance Ovechkin could actually break Gretzky's record of most goals scored. Seriously.

Devils are winning a lot of one goal and OT games, which doesn't bode well for long term success, but when I actually watch them I see some very good coaching leading a solid system with the whole team playing hard. Can't ask for much more than that, and now they've beaten Chicago and Vancouver as each have visited Newark. A lot of us here in Jersey looked at November as the make or break month for the Devils given how much tough competition they have on the way (e.g. they have a home-and-home against Montreal over Thanksgiving weekend), but so far, the results have been heartening.
As for Mark Messier,
Wouldn't you know we're riding...on the Marrakesh Express?
NJD could honestly be this seasons last years Flames, season before Colorado. Which isn't a bad thing like its good to build a winning culture no matter how flukey it maybe.
Also fun fact Messier was drafted so low for partying too hard, was sent to the minors for partying in which he turned his time into a bigger party, and permanently denting the cup in his favorite strip club. He also may have six or seven illegimate children

He also wrapped his Ferrari around a tree while *ahem* 'allegedly' on blow while in Edmonton.

Oy, really hoping they can follow-up better than those clubs have. Still, yeah, I want the young defensemen getting into playoff hockey quickly, it'd be great for their growth together.
Honestly, the hope is that between Schneider and those young blue-liners, they'll improve enough that a drop off won't be likely, but no use in looking that far ahead just yet.

Ya, this is a story I wanna follow. Don't think I've ever heard of something like this, and with them being a new team it could absolutely cripple the franchise. Apparently the owners kid quit as well, and this whole debacle was over the owner firing the coaching staff for not giving the kid enough ice time
17th Summer of Muskrat? Good God I've been here a long time.

Looking back at NJ vs. Van from last night, and damn, I missed a lot (I couldn't sit down and watch the whole thing wire to wire for various reasons).
First off, if the league does anything to discipline Adam Larrson for that hit on McCann in the 3rd, the NHL might as well pack things in. Shoulder to shoulder contact, maybe enough for a 2 minute interference call, but he got 5 minutes and a game misconduct because it looked bad...and the call was 5 for interference, which I have never, ever heard of before.
The officiating in last night's game really was something from another planet, just God awful, and both teams got hurt by it at various points.
Also read that when Burrows and Tootoo were in the box, Burrows was throwing out some really personal insults toward Tootoo, which made him light up enough that he mentioned it to the press. Must've been really bad, given that Burrows has a shitty reputation.
Either way, the rematch in about a week or so should be pretty damned entertaining.

Rangers/Canes tonight, meaning the Staals are all playing tonight. Which makes me wonder what happened to Jared Staal. I thought at one point he was touted as the best of the bunch?
Take that, Devils. A split second too late. Winning on goals from Magnus Paajarvi and a Marty Have at goal from Scott Gomez. What the hell is this season??? Jake Allen looks really good lately, though.
