With the Mets' season over and with my ability to care about football fading more and more, I'm starting to get really antsy about needing hockey back for real. Divisional Series baseball without my team in it will not keep my heart aflutter between now and next Wednesday/Thursday.

Oilers just traded Nail Yakupov to the Blues for a conditional 3rd round pick and prospect Zach Pochiro. Really that's it Edmonton? That Pochiro dude is 22 and still playing in juniors FFS.

Terrible asset management again from Chia. But I REALLY don't see Yak and Hitch getting along.

My initial reaction to this trade: No, but seriously, I'm setting up everything for Fantasy Hockey tonight and will be sending invites out to those who played last year. I will probably have a few spots open since I don't expect everyone to come back. So, if you want to play this year and you didn't last year, then let me know so that I can send out an invitation to join the league your way.

I knew Edmonton wasn't going to get much for Yak. I've said a few times in the last year that they should just keep him because he's worth more in potential than he will get in return. Obviously, I didn't know it was going to be this little of a return, or that my Blues were gonna be the ones to end up with him. Any breakdown of what we're getting, guys?

Nail Yakupovs pre season was so bad that there was legit concern he was going to end up on the waiver wire. Seriously. Like the moment Hendricks returns he seriously might of been on the waiver wire where he would of been picked up for sure.
Plus Chicago wanted us to retain salary. This thing will be a disaster since Yakupov can't play with system coaches and Hitchcock is Eakins on steroids. So yeah...

Also Oilers sign Kris Russell which means Nurse is starting at the ALL this year. Jeez I leave Edmonton for 12 hours and one major signing and one major trade and it snows.

But yeah seriously Drake Caggiula and Puljujärvi outperformed Yakupov and will probably start opening night with Caggiula playing the full 82 game season and Puljujarvi being given the 9 game tryout. But yeah the RW depth is Eberle, Hendricks, Kassian, Draisaitl (if he isn't playing center), Caggiula (can play both), Pakarinen, and Pitlick as the extra forward most likely. Yakupov plays even worse on the LW and you already have Lucic, Caggiula, Maroon, Pouliot, Hendricks (can play both), and others. Like I'm not even kidding Yakupov was waiver wire consideration and Hendricks being injured is what delayed the inevitable. But I'm sure they rather play Puljujarvi and Caggiula on a 9 game tryout rather then having Yakupov or having Yakupov sitting in the press box tanking his trade value even further.
Like Bob McKenzie even said during the NHL Draft Yakupov's value is a 3rd round pick and he had a terrible terrible preseason where I'm sure his value has tanked even further. The fact it's a conditional 3rd where it turns into a 2nd round pick if he scores more then 15 goals shows how little confidence St. Louis has for him. Like if you can get a 2nd round pick for a 13th forward that isn't a bad deal really. Plus I rather have Kris Russell on the team then Yakupov.
I'm a Yakupov fan and it sucks it didn't workout for him in Edmonton and I really hope it does in St. Louis. But I'm kind of sick and tired of THE LOL EDMONTON LOL CHIA CIRCLEJERK EVERYWHERE! Like Jesus yesterday Yakupov is the biggest bust that has ever busted only worth a 3rd round pick with half salary retained in Chicago and now all of a sudden he's the next Ovi who is due to score 40 goals a season and should of been worth a 1st round pick or a Trouba. Or having Russell on a cheap 1 year deal with tons of cap space is the worst f***ing contract in the world where he's one of the few D-Men that can play both sides and is known a character grit guy. Like I remember the never ending circle jerk about Russell on how well he played with so much heart when Gio went down and how played so damn good in the playoffs. You got rid of a mopey depressed 13th forward player who is so beat up in a losing culture for a gritty 2nd pairing or 3rd pairing defenseman who is known for leadership qualities.

Russell played aight in the playoffs. Nothing more or less. He's an experienced guy and kinda hard to get behind with the way he skates. That's not poor value for Yak. If you're gonna laugh at Chia, the Hall deal is where to do it, not here. It's an even trade off in terms of getting Russell and dumping Yak, probably a little boost in that Russell is an experienced D and those guys always have an inflated value.

Especially during trade deadline if the Oilers are out of the playoffs again where an experienced D Man is worth a 2nd or 3rd round draft pick like last year.

To be fair, there's only a couple Oilers related bloggers(one whose name rhymes with 'Twat Schmenderson' and he thinks he's an infallible unicorn who has never made a mistake in his entire career. Seriously, if you can't even admit when the guy loses an edge and trips over his own two feet and then rip the commentator for pointing out the Oilers caught a break in getting a powerplay on the play, you've got serious blinders on) who think Yak is going to be this 40 goal scorer. Most Oiler fans are more realistic with Yak's actual ability(not to say he doesn't still have staunch defenders as well)

This thing will be a disaster since Yakupov can't play with system coaches and Hitchcock is Eakins on steroids. So yeah... Hitchcock is retiring and on his way out with Mike Yeo coming in next year. Yeo has some say in the players that get brought in so this looks to be one of them because this year is a transitional season from the head coaching stand point. To me this is a good trade in a sense because while people seem to hate and call Yakupov a "bust" on a 23 year player is beyond me but this is how I look at it. Yakupov wasn't playing on a team that has been very good and lack of talent. If he truly a bust of a player this is where we will find out because if he can't be a break out player on this team that has more talent, then yes you could call him whatever you want. For the Blues right now is low risk with a potential huge upside, and if he fails the Blues didn't give up hardly anything and wouldn't be a big lost to them.

So, Fantasy Hockey Update: If you played last year, I auto-renewed your team and so you're already in for this season. Check your inboxes and junk folders for that notification. If you don't want to play this season, there's still the option to cancel your team and open up a spot. If you're new and want to join up, there's about 2 more spots open(unless more open up from people leaving that played last year). sfvega, I'll be sending you an invitation to join once you send me your email. Again, the draft this this Tuesday night(10/11) at 7:30 PM Pacific; 10:30 PM Eastern. If you East Coasters want to hold the draft a half hour or hour earlier, let me know before Monday so I can change the draft time.

Boy are the Blues going to be good in the future with Tage Thompson when he joins the team saw him play tonight for the UConn Huskies against Alabama-Huntsville and does he have a good shot on him.

Awesome. I know a lot of people have talked about how he should eventually replace David Backes as a big center with a shot. He seems like he could be a very good one a couple years from now.
