I really enjoy the movie but whooo boy did this thread make me happy. We're getting better. Better in almost every way. We're smarter, we're making great progress on social issues, every day fascinating new technology comes out that makes our lives better. How on EARTH do these people not feel optimistic? Life's amazing right now. It's gotten so much better since I was a kid and I'm not even thirty yet.

It drives me crazy how some people (usually critics) try to tie Mike Judge's entire body of work back to this damn movie. Case in point: Some early reviews of Silicon Valley made the argument that it was essentially a prequel to Idiocracy due to the way Hooli was initially portrayed. Newsflash, gang: It isn't. Hooli is parody of Silicon Valley in general and Google and the video card company Judge worked for in the 80s in particular. That's it.

That was Extract with this time the workers are the morons and the boss is the sane one.

holy crap, I didn't even know that this thread was already here when I made mine hahah.
Yeah, the movies okay, though it's annoying me with the people who like to bring it up to point out how stupid everyone else is.

I've.... Never seen this movie... Am I to interpret that it's good? It's the kind of movie you build your life's philosphy around. It's that good.

I honestly didn't know people had strong opinions on Idiocracy one way or another.
It was alright. It had a few laughs. It's pretty forgettable, though, and nowhere near Mike Judge's best...which is King of the Hill, FYI.

The one thing I don't like is how some people actually believe that stupid people will actually produce stupid offspring. It bothers me because I actually like this flick ( its my favorite, besides Ass the movie).

Stupid people won't produce stupid offspring. Its the quality of their morals and parenting that ultimately shape the child. However that is not to say the parent's behavior will absolutely be cloned in the child. I'm a good example of this. My parents were alcoholic and my father was a drug addict and outlaw. I'm a police officer with a strong family unit. Parents are your model but at a certain point you determine your behavior.
As far as the idea about idiocracy, I see how easy it is to say that and I'm guilty of doing it a few times. But far more often I have argued that todays youth is no different as far as the threat they pose than any previous one. Technology changes the degree but essentially the same phrase has been applied for centuries by the middle aged adults: "kids these days are spoiled....etc etc...kids these days are ruining this etc....our nation is doomed....it's the end of times etc..."well we are all still here.

I don't see why people worry "Idiocracy" will ever happen. Those damn kids with their rock music and satanic blue jeans will kill us all long before we breed ourselves stupid.

When did it become cool to hate on Idiocracy? It's incredible to me that in a topic full of people listing specific reasons why they don't like it, you seem to think it's just folks on a bandwagon.
