I am honestly a little surprised you've seen that movie. I've met like 3-4 people who had any idea what the f*** I was talking about. Mutton chops, or Goatee? MUTTON CHOPS

Its like Scarface that way. I've seen a lot of people emulate and quote Tony Montana, but they clearly didn't watch the movie all the way to the end. That happens a lot; people love to quote movies, but don't really bother to know what actually happens or the whole point of the movie. Your example is that of a man who starts to do drugs, first to survive, then to thrive, and his paranoia and obsession with drugs begins his downfall, ultimately being destroyed by his former allies because he treated them like garbage. People just assume it's about a man who starts a badass and dies a badass. My main issue with the movie is the fact that it, like Demolition Man, are now treated as the cautionary tales that people like to harp about if certain ideological groups get power. The subversive element about Scarface is that it's about the gradual erosion of someone's humanity. It's like, Montana is just vicious throughout 90% of the film, but the one moment he shows even the slightest bit of compassion towards someone (the journalist and their family) Sosa (these bitches love Sosa...) loses his shit and Tony's empire starts to fall apart- which also ties into Oliver Stone's indictment of Miami culture at the time.

When did it become cool to hate on Idiocracy? It's incredible to me that in a topic full of people listing specific reasons why they don't like it, you seem to think it's just folks on a bandwagon. I'm not trying to dismiss the reasons why y'all don't like the film, even though I do not agree with several of those reasons. However, it does seem very strange that there is sudden distaste for the movie, whereas it was largely obscure in the past and mildly liked during the peak of its fame. This reminds me of when I first came onto the FAN/Wrestlecrap Board: I was the lone voice who said that Raven was one of the highlights of WCW, and the majority of the board seemed outraged that I would suggest such a thing and told me that Raven sucked in WCW. Now the majority seem to say otherwise. Let me make it clear, so my opinion will established if/when the tide of consensus changes: I like Idiocracy and think it did a superb job poking fun at trends that came more and more to the fore during the time of its creation.

Idiocracy is a good movie but has a large section of a loud vocal insufferable fanbase who take it to far like most good movies. Just like Fight Club which is one of my all time favorite movies has a loud vocal insufferable fanbase. Or same thing with some wrestling fans who take it too far. Some movies and shows are bigger lightning rods of attracting smug and loud fans than other movies.
But Terry Crews might of been one of the greatest presidents in history. Seriously.
