I feel like I should comment until I know more about the story, but if he was doing steroids for his other hobby of power lifting and not encouraging his strength or promoting it as a trainer than so what. Unless this kind of thing like competing in events not approved by the WWE for breach of contract than yeah he should be punished. Unless he is a independent contractor. Dammit we need more details

The story of him failing a drug test for the bodybuilding contest got out a few weeks ago and it wasn't clear if this would count toward WWE. Well, now we know the answer.

I can understand why they did it, having someone that failed a drug test carry on training will give talent the wrong impression, but he'll be back once it has blown over.

He doesn't get three strikes?
I wonder if they just fired him because they found out he was powerlifiting and hate independent contractors taking up independent contracts with other companies inependently.

Damn. Look at all that he had. It was enough to make a blind man see. Everything we wished we had, PED's gave it all to him.
On occasion, his reflection puts even him in awe. Because he had it all.

37-1. Now we know why he was called "The One" Billy Gunn.
I'll see myself out now.

Eh, not ideal, but makes sense.
Wrestling's history with that kind of stuff and the last thing WWE wants is someone in a training/mentor position being associated with it. Not just from a trainer/trainee perspective but also from a PR perspective.
