I think I'm the only person in the world who prefers the NIN version better. I don't hate the cash version just prefer NIN better. When I read peoples' opinions on this song, it makes me feel like I don't a have a soul or something. Cash's version touched a lot of people so in itself that makes it great, but I don't really feel anything from it. But I think NIN's version is fantastic.

Loved Cash's version so much more than NIN's. Though it may be just because I've never cared for the band. I had Cash's version playing when I finished The Dark Tower. Really added to the emotion of the stories end.

I can't hear the song anymore without thinking of Eddie Guerrero and getting sad. Thanks, WWE.

I like both versions. NIN's comes off as a hard drug addict trying to warn people to stay away from him. Cash's version comes off more as an old man wanting an end to his pain.

I honestly don't see the appeal in the Cash cover unless you're a die-hard Cash fan or you simply prefer his style of music over Trent Reznor's. At the very least, give the NIN version credit for having an original melody and lyrics.

I see the NIN part of the analogy, but I always saw the Cash version of more of a cautionary tale. A warning to the future generations saying, don't go down this path.

I can see your version in Cash's cover also. Part of my seeing it differently is when I first heard Cash's cover was when my grandmother was dying. So the song and that event are always linked in my mind.

Both takes are great, but I personally prefer Cash's. It sounds like he isn't just singing a sad song, but that he's spilling his soul to music.
