"Making money from the easily outraged may appear cynical and exploitative, but it actually isn't.
With a convenient boogeyman, the right rhetoric, and a little bit of good ol' fashioned demagoguery, you'll be stacking cheddar courtesy of those who'll take any validation tossed their way.
And the best part is how it isn't cynical. Not at all!"

The amount of people in the comments who completely missed the point of the video is mind boggling As soon as I saw the dislikes I ran to the comments to see how many heads the thing flew over. I think, for those who don't get it, and this is my crack at it, was that he was complaining about Dead or Alive Xtreme actually exiting, but somebody assumed he was supporting a game that featured nudity and questionable content (or the fact that he was actually mentioning a game that featured nudity and questionable content), and got it taken down. Ironically, though, many games actually are able to become popular by being explicitly controversial, and as a result, some studios use that to make money, which was something he had wanted to do an episode about.

I watched the video and read the terrible comments section (both on YouTube and Twitter, there's a whole Twitter thread that I have NO idea what the hell they're talking about) and I still don't get what the intent of the video was.
If Jim Sterling's intent was to create pointless arguments and people being nasty to each other, then he succeeded. Other than that, I don't see what other result this video could have had.

I don`t like Jimquisiton, but i like the topic, and the last is interesting because Play Asia did just that. They are going to sell the English Asian version of the game and some people went nuts, and their twitter followers doubled .So plan succefull I guess? This game is honestly not a big deal for me,sure it basically says "We are selling this for straight man and lesbians" it is basically porn ,do people have issue with people selling porn?

From what I seen Jim is a pretty much a troll. As for play asia, their a website that sell Japanese import and decided to sell this game that Temco Koei didn't want to sell here because they didn't want to upset anyone and be accused of sexism. When news came out that play Asia was going to sell this game, a cerian group of "warrior" freak out and decided that, due to their mindset, that it was their right/duty to decided whatever or not play Asia could sell this gane or not. In my opinion, people have the right to play this game if they want too. I'm more mad about sjw acting like their the law in this and it up to them if someone has the right to import this game or not.

Yeah, that was how I saw it.
Honestly, if there was enough money to be made, they'd be doing it. Simple as that. I don't think Koei Tecmo were caving into "SJWs" at all. This was purely business.
I do take exception from people of the opinion amounting to essentially "I don't like this, therefore no one should be allowed to have it" which sadly isn't the first time this has happened, and definitely won't be the last. Let people buy their beach volleyball games if they want them.
I totally got the video. Jim was clearly taking the piss. Sadly most of the time people on the internet take things far too seriously, as they did here.

As you see, you have a group of people actually telling Temco Koei that their pieces of shit for creating this series. I think the reason why there was a outcry was because this news came out at a time where a couple major titles were getting censored from their Japanese counterpart, it was pretty much the straw that broke the camel back.

There was apparently a facebook post of their page that,in a reply to the comments where they sai they didn`t want due to backslash {Spoiler}{Spoiler} I don`t know much of that is the reason, but if it made A LOT of money,it probably wouldnt matter That facebook post has been proving to be true as for SJW and Temco Koei... Well the Facebook thing was only whoever runs the Facebook page, not the people who made the game. As for the whole 'SJW' thing, I don't judge people based on labels, so I'm not touching that whatsoever. What I will say is that I've never understood why people say that Dead or Alive is sexist. It's not even just Dead or Alive, it's other games too, they get labelled as 'sexist' just because they're sexualised, and in my opinion, sexualisation doesn't automatically equal sexism. I mean, I'm fully against sexism and fully support getting rid of sexism wherever it is, but I just don't see it with this game. You could say that Ride to Hell is sexist, as all of the women in the game are portrayed as sexual rewards with no personalities, but Dead or Alive Xtreme is just a bunch of women playing games on the beach and running around in bikinis, there's no malice or hatred towards women...maybe I'm wrong and stupid, but I don't see how that's sexist. And now that I've said that, I fully expect to be told that I'm stupid and wrong.

It is one thing to have a game where women are basically the "reward" for progressing in the game, where they all will have sex with you (fully clothed, of course... strangely enough), and it is another for a game to just invoke girls in bikinis doing things that show off their assets and do things sexy. That said, they are still two examples of misogyny, one more blatant than the other, of course, but still showing off misogyny, IMO. The reason why people often give flack to Tecmo Koei and DoA is the fact that DoA is the exception to the fighting game norm. In most fighting games, it's a battle of testosterone as male characters clash and beat the tar out of each other, and the few female characters that are in each major franchise are often put in as a source of either eyecandy or, if they are taken serious, a source of contention in a fair setting... or something like that. Dead or Alive is a mostly female roster, so you would assume that they'd take those characters seriously, as opposed to putting the central fighters in these types of situations over and over again. That's where some people get frustrated. I mean, in Japan, it probably sells well because, let's be honest, Japan is full of perverts, but even so, I do think that the argument about the games often result in complaints about the gameplay going unnoticed, but anybody griping about the fact that there's a bunch of girls who run around in nothing but bikinis and show off their butts and breasts is going to get backlash because you're invoking censorship. It's unfortunate that because of that, the real problem with the franchise (it's just a steaming pile of shit), is often the LAST thing critics of the series will be able to make an argument about because it's clear that the discussion will head to the obvious problem first and not the more significant one.

On the other side of that, Saying a game like this, where girls in bikinis are basically doing nothing in particular all game except playing beach volleyball, racing jet skis, and playing at a casino is an example of misogyny solely because the women are attractive and dressed sexily is lookism and body-shaming, and as such that viewpoint is just as misogynistic as the game itself. If a real life woman was on the beach and doing all of these things herself, dressed like that, you wouldn't say she was doing it just to titillate men or deny her right to dress like that, so why is it somehow evil to have a series of basic minigames solely because of what the women look like and what they're wearing?

Some of you are way off.
In reality Koei Tecmo isn't selling the game here because the last two sold very poorly and they didn't see it as profitable. Play-Asia came in, went full Gamergate and manufactured a controversy that Koei Tecmo themselves said was a crock of bullshit in a tweet. They never planned to sell the game in the USA at all.
That's what really happened.

See, this is the type of thing that makes me avoid talking about serious issues on the internet, as it only ends up with me being more confused. And while I could go on a giant rant over this post, I'm not going to. I will say a few things though...firstly, I don't see how the games are 'misogynist', unless every single sexualized thing ever is misogynist, in which case I guess I give up. Secondly, I don't see why the characters can't be taken seriously just because they're sexualized...that's like saying that any sexualized character inherently can't be taken seriously at all, and that you can't treat characters seriously unless they aren't. Plus, when looking at the Dead or Alive games in general, the characters are taken seriously, the Xtreme series is just the non-serious spin-off game in which the characters are on vacation. And thirdly, I wholeheartedly disagree about the franchise being a 'steaming pile of shit'. I've not played the latest DOA fighting game, but I played the first four and I really enjoyed them. As for the Xtreme games, I'm not a big fan of them at all, I've played the first two but there really isn't much to them, and I found them nothing more than inoffensive time wasters really. It is one thing to have a game where women are basically the "reward" for progressing in the game, where they all will have sex with you (fully clothed, of course... strangely enough), and it is another for a game to just invoke girls in bikinis doing things that show off their assets and do things sexy. And this is exactly what I mean when I say that I've always been extremely confused over this sort of thing...this statement completely contradict's the statements in the post by JDogindy...It's either sexist/misogynist to find nothing wrong with sexualized things, or there's nothing wrong with it and it's not sexist. And I've never been able to figure out which is correct. These two messages have confused me for years, there's a good reason I tried my best to repress every sexual thought I've ever had in the first 22 (approximately) years of my life, before finally just giving up trying. (I'm 27 now, btw). It's because I always feel extremely guilty about it, and like I'm doing something wrong. I don't want to be a sexist or a misogynist. I hate sexism and misogyny. But I'm still confused. Just another reason for me to give up on life entirely, really.

Valid point, and more than likely shatters my fuddy-duddy opinion, making me sound like a dreaded... one of those guys in the process. My main issue with Dead or Alive Xtreme is the fact that I look at the Dead or Alive franchise and how they do take the roster seriously in the fighting games, not to mention the gameplay itself. Where the "steaming pile of shit" comment came from is me looking at Xtreme, and how the games aren't actually fun or engaging to play with besides looks (anticipating the "people aren't playing these games for deep, engaging content" replies). Besides, I own two of the installments of the main fighting series on Xbox, which I have found enjoyment in, and if you guys find the comments contradictory in a sense, I do have problems expressing my own thoughts sometimes. And I'm merely just stating my own personal opinion, even if I kinda regret it afterward. If you view it as it being perfectly fine, that's your way of looking at it, and I'm not going to go after you over it, because how we all approach things are different. I just had an opinion and wanted to express it, accordingly.

Eh,i don`t think it is sexist, the same way a Boys Love Game is not sexist,or a Hentai Dating Sim is not sexist. Ther eis difference between using(as said) woman as a cheap reward for your game and eye candy, and porn. They know they game is marketed toward horny people that like sexy woman. It is porn, and porn is not sexist ,it just markets to the pleasure of a demographic. Nothing wrong with wanting to see some ass and boobies. In the end, though, we all have different opinions, and no matter what, people will argue why you are wrong. But that does not mean you shouldn't have to pick your hill to die on. If you want to enjoy a video game franchise like Xtreme, you're more than entitled to. Nobody should really be insulting you over your preferences before we all have different likes and dislikes. What I had meant to discuss was the fact that in an argument, we often go after the obvious thing that some people may have problems with and not discuss the real problems, if you think there are any.

Fair enough. As I said before, I'm not even a big fan of the Xtreme games, I just don't find them offensive is all.
