How far could he had gone with the two gimmicks together? Would he have been given the reigns to unleash hell on WWE and make himself champion? I don't think they would of made him champion though with all that power it could of been a good storyline and a very good heel move. Though considering Punk was World Champ in 08 you never know. What are your thoughts, would this have been taken as far as it could go or we the legs have been cut from it?

I looked forward to William Regal: WWE Champion, but he couldn't keep his demons away long enough to allow that to happen.
He was the highlight of programming each week, and even though he was another heel authority figure, I feel he was a fresh take on the whole thing with the ways he abused his power: turning the lights off when he wasn't happy, threatening to shut the show off - I really liked it. Power-hungry Regal had a lot of potential and I wish I could've seen where they were going to take it.

certainly looked like he was being groomed for a main event run if not an actual title reign.

I figure he'd maybe feud with Punk over the WHC. He did just beat him to win KOTR before Punk won the strap, right?

I would love him to be back as a heel GM of RAW.

Regal is one of the only guys in wrestling history that makes everything he says look completely natural and this was almost the point where that hit its apex. I just wish he had been able to not lose himself.

If Regal appeared out there now and demanded that the show be "TAKEN OFF THE BLOODY AIR", he'd get a monster face pop.

From what I've read, prior to his Wellness violation, he was going to win the WWE Title.
It would have been deserved, too.

I was beyond heartbroken that it ended. Apart from the Summer of Punk and briefly during the original NXT/Nexus, thats the last time I watched Raw consistently.
Regal is my favourite of all time and in every metric one of the best to ever lace up the boots. I was so, so pulling to see him win the WWE Title even if it had just been for a week. He could go out there next week on Raw, challenge Sheamus, beat him, and I wouldn't even care that it's an old timer being put over. I loved his 2008 run and just wish we'd gotten to see where it was going.

I only saw it live, but for some reason his match with Orton for the title remains such a vivid memory in my head even all these years later. Heel vs. Heel, though it was in England I believe so Regal definitely played face.
