There was a time when WWE knew how to CAPITALIZE on someone's natural charisma and groundswell of support from the fans and leverage that into a brand that could make them a lot of money by signal boosting the aesthetic that is already somewhat popular and putting that person in a position to be featured in a way that works with that branding.
In the past 7-10 years they've forgotten how to do that in favor of trying to build stars from the ground up, which is like the American Idol way of doing things. It might work, but really it just creates acts that people can tell are manufacturated as f***. They might be popular, but they'll never be as big or memorable as people who came up outside the American Idol system.
