Like an example of someone who was good might be Hulk Hogan. He has quite the reputation of a politician and the fact The Nasty Boys were wrestling on national TV this decade kind of shatters any doubts of this.
As for someone who is the inverse of this...I've heard Edge.
Although that comes from a Raven shoot where he's bitter toward Edge, so that might not be that reliable. He said he asked Edge about going to the bosses to ask them about working with Raven since Raven was in lower midcard hell at the time. Edge said he would, but Raven thinks he never did. Raven said, Edge was also very good friends with Johnny Swinger, but never went to bat for him as far as getting into the WWF goes.
Also, I always find it weird that CM Punk was one of the biggest wrestling stars on the planet while his best friend got released from the company after a cup of coffee. I think that has less to do with Punk being a shitty friend though and more to do with him having no actual pull. IIRC he tried to get Cabana some auditions as a commentator, but things never panned out.

I like to think Raven's story converges with another great story. I think Edge indeed went to bat for Raven only for Vince to ask him, "Who the f*** hired Raven?"

Sting. It says so in his theme song.

Triple H....if you are indeed his friend. From the Kliq to Sheamus.
Similarly, there's Undertaker....he got Kronik hired because he was friends with one of the Brians, forget which. Then again he let them go under the bus after That Match.

Hogan always took care of his enterouge, which annoyed others to no end.

Hulk Hogan for all the wrong reasons hands down. Politicking, brother!
See: Nasty Boys predominately featured in TNA in 2010! Brother Bruti in the Starrcade main event in 1994!
Argh.
But on the flipside, William Regal for all the right reasons. He has talented friends and mentees!
See: Getting Devitt Balor and others jobs in Nxt.
