Sam Worthington maybe? Wouldn't call him a failure but it seems they keep trying to make him a big name and it isn't happening.

Remember all those comedy films David Spade starred in post-Farley? Senseless (actually a supporting role, but he did play the antagonist), Lost and Found, and Dickie Roberts all tanked big time, and Joe Dirt only became a cult hit due to the cable reruns. Kind of sad, as i was a big Spade fan. I honestly don't think Spade knew what to do with himself after Chris died. Watching his first few post Farley movies, just seemed like his heart wasn't really in it.

Jai Courtney seems to be in rather prominent roles lately but not many people go to his movies to watch him act specifically.

Someone's already mentioned Sam Worthington, but I need to back it up. It seemed like we were on the verge of him becoming the biggest action star of our generation, with starring roles in "Avatar", "Terminator Salvation", and "Clash of the Titans". Then...nothing. Now he's relegated to playing second fiddle to Arnold Schwarzenegger in box office bombs or starring in Indie films nobody's ever heard of like "Cake" or "Paper Planes". For what it's worth, he also voiced Alex Mason in both Call of Duty: Black Ops games. Which is weird because I don't recall them ever really advertising that. You'd think that one of the biggest games of their respective years would put some promotional power behind the fact that the main character is voiced by a well-known actor.\ Funny thing is I had no idea he was in COD either but I saw my Dad playing the campaign and I heard the voice of a British man unable to hold an American accent and thought of him immediately. I had to check IMDB and sure enough there he was. Not that it's the easiest thing in the world to put on a foreign accent but I just find it funny that these big time franchises just kept calling on him for that role.

Jai Courtney seems to be in rather prominent roles lately but not many people go to his movies to watch him act specifically. I'm pretty confident the only people who really knew (much less cared) Jai Courtney was in Frankenstein, Terminator Genisys, Insurgent, and A Good Day to Die Hard were Jai Courtney's family. The only people who care that he's in Suicide Squad are the people going "Jai Courtney? Really?"

Brandon Routh. There were a lot of talks of the "Superman Curse" and if he'd break it. He did not and was out wandering for about a decade until he got the role of Atom and even that's on TV. Darn you for mentioning Atom by name...that kills my "he went on to be Iron Man" joke. I would have accepted fighting Kaijus. Brandon Routh. There were a lot of talks of the "Superman Curse" and if he'd break it. He did not and was out wandering for about a decade until he got the role of Atom and even that's on TV. Nothing horrible happened to him, so no the so-called "curse" didn't affect him. He's had a decent career with plenty of roles since, just because he hasn't been on the big screen since Scott Pilgrim doesn't mean he hasn't been successful. There's no such things as curses. His last big film lead was the forgotten flop Dylan Dog. He was fourth lead in the CBS sitcom Partners that lasted only 13 episodes. Seems like being the title character of a star-making film did not make him a star. Y'know, the point of the thread. If the thread was about actors who never did anything ever again Klinton Spilsbury would be the only name mentioned that would count since the majority of actors named here, including actors I mentioned, still make a living acting.

My argument is that he wasn't damaged by the curse. He's gotten plenty of work.

Here is a post about rappers-turned-actors. DMX had top billing in movies like "Exit Wounds" and "Cradle 2 The Grave," but those two were cheesy action movies (That I actually enjoy in spite of the films' problems), but then came "Never Die Alone," which seemed like it was a chance to break him into a more serious role (I will admit that I saw that in theaters), and it quite an indie movie feel for it, but it did not do well. Of course, he also had "Belly" before the aforementioned movie, which in hindsight, I am not sure what the deal for the production of that film was like. DMX was known, yes, at that point, but he had only released two albums that same year that movie came out. Also, Nas did not act much after that movie.
Let's also talk about Snoop Dogg. He probably was not cut out for a leading man after "Bones." I don't want to count "The Wash" because that just felt like a project that Dre and Snoop did for DJ Pooh (AKA Red from "Friday"), who directed that film and also did "3 Strikes" before that.

He didn't want to do the straight man / overwhelmingly funny guy routine with anyone else, which left him movies where he was the lead (oof) and TV, where he's largely (and has pretty successfully) existed since.

Yeah, he's found a fairly successful niche on TV. I still think his best TV run was when he did "Just Shoot Me." That was a funny show.

The butterfly effect for Ashton kutcher....in a non comedic role. To be fair, Kutcher was okay in it, the story of that movie just plain sucks.

Yea, he was fine in it and actually the premise and story for it was really interesting. Though there's one obvious plothole in it (the jail scene).
