I've been wanting to get into ROH and NJPW. Is there a way to watch some of their stuff to get caught up short of buying a ton of DVDs?

ROH puts their newest TV show on their website for free every week. For I think 8 bucks a month you can have access to all of the Sinclair shows, other events through the year and a large portion of their back catalog. On here, the stickied thread has show results, news wires and all that kinda stuff to stay up to date as well.
NJPW, you can kinda follows the stickied thread. For actual events there is NJPW World which is their version of the WWE Network. Don't know much about it though.

Yeah, I heard about their network, but I hear all the commentary is in Japanese.

A few of the major shows have had English commentary I believe. Know WK10 did, maybe one or two others but yeah, not many. Site is also not in English but there is a guide that is supposed to help with that.

Google Translate does a fine job to let you browse the back catalog.
There are three shows online in English: WK10, New Year's Dash 2015 and King Of Pro Wrestling 2015. WK9 isn't, I'm guessing Global Force owns the English rights, which will be the most precious thing they will ever own.

From what I understand, the AXS shows are not current. They may be back up by a year or more.

From what I understand, the AXS shows are not current. They may be back up by a year or more. Not quite a year, but like 8 months. Only time they do a year is when there's an early, older match with implications on that week's feature bout. Given the OP is looking for the way to brush up on the history of the company, sounds like this works for him perfectly.

Also, ROH offers "Ringside Membership," which people here have mentioned. It's a month-to-month charge, so if you're the type who can binge watch, you can be all caught up with a month or two. ROH is only 14 years old, so you can catch up fairly quickly.
