Hey y'all. I'm looking for some good survival games on PC (preferably). The obvious reference is Minecraft (which I already own) but here's the thing, I'd like something a teensy bit more plot driven. It doesn't even have to have a full story or anything, but something that gives you quests and clear goals.
So basically, the ideal thing for me would be something where you are sent on randomized quests, even if it's just basic stuff like "go kill X" or "get me X number of item Y" while you also build your own home and possibly even town, your relationship with NPCs evolve, etc. I guess good examples of what I'm looking for would be something like Hexxit (an amazing modpack for Minecraft) but with actual quests rather than just exploration and better NPC interaction than just buying/selling stuff. The settlement system from Fallout 4 is also a good example of stuff I'm looking for but where that would be the core gameplay instead of just a side feature of the main game.
So does any of you guys know of something even close to that?

There's one i found a few days ago that seems the exact thing you want. I've got it saved on my favourites so when I get home I'll find what it's called.

DeadState sounds like what your looking for.
At the moment I'm watching a "Lets play" of Fear Equation which looks really good. It isnt out yet, but will be on steam soon.

Skyrim with the Homestead expansion pack?
You can get married, adopt children and have to do tasks to earn money and favour from various Jarls (Earls) who then give you permission to build.
The game obviously has other goals and dragons, but you can play it is a nice home sim if you want to.

Grav Reborn is the one I was on about.
Never played it but the description mentions exploring different planets, crafting weapons, building outposts, hunting alien creatures etc

State of Decay is definitely one of the most story and NPC inclined games in the survival genre, that's for sure.

Don't Starve, State of Decay and This War of Mine are the only games in the survival genre that I will point to as being genuinely great games as opposed to just being good survival games.
Seriously, it's a genre that is just so oversaturated that I never want to see another game released in the genre.

I won't say it is oversaturated(as there is not many base building/survival games) except shit like DayZ that seemed to be all over the place from nowhere, but i don't count these as surival.. The problem is that is one of these "cheap knockoff" "easy money"genres. But i sadly don't see many worthy efforts.I wish it had more Survival Games that people put some work in it.

Thanks for the many suggestions, guys! Keep 'em coming if you can think of more! DeadState sounds like what your looking for. That does look interesting. The only kind of negative to me is that I feel the zombie apocalypse setting might make things a bit repetitive but from what I see, it does look like it's the kind of stuff I've been looking for gameplay-wise. I especially like the fact that you can save survivors and make them join your group. A bit pricey for me but it does have a free demo so I'll at least give that a try. Grav Reborn is the one I was on about. Never played it but the description mentions exploring different planets, crafting weapons, building outposts, hunting alien creatures etc Could be interesting but from the reviews, a lot of features are sill missing (it's an early access game) so I think I'll wait for a while before I commit. Pretty much like DeadStae, it looks very much like what I'm looking for but still a bit pricey and the lack of variety implied by the zombie setting puts me off a bit so I'll wait for a sale. Speaking of zombie survival games, has anyone played Project Zomboid? It looks very interesting and it's fairly cheap so I was wondering if anyone can confirm that it's worth it. I also looked around myself and found two that are pretty interesting. Not the best (especially since they're still fairly early in development) and they don't have quests or NPC interaction (as far as I'm aware) but definitely have potential: Unturned. This one is free so definitely worth trying at least. I had actually seen Let's Plays of it that actually didn't make it look all that great (not to mention it's yet ANOTHER zombie survival game) but since those days, it seems to have been upgraded and improved a lot. It's still fairly basic as far as survival games go but it does have that addictive "one more try" feel. Only real issue for me is that it's not procedurally generated so it might get repetitive after a while but then again, it has three maps so far (with more coming in the future), they are pretty big and there is also an editor where you can create your own and you can download user-created maps. Oh and the loot IS randomly generated so that adds some variety. Don't expect great graphics though (although thankfully it seems to going away from the Minecraft rip-off style). Forsaken Isle. Very pretty 2D game where, as the title implies, you explore an island and have to find resources to survive. Interestingly, you have to discover crafting recipes before you can actually craft items in this game (although from what I understand, doing so is a simple as finding the right ingredients). This one's not free but it's very cheap. I'd say it's worth it. The only thing I find annoying is that you can't reassign controls (yet) and it's designed for QWERTY keyboards and being European, I use an AZERTY keyboard, making it very awkward to use WASD for movement.

Well, I recommended to ya long ago, but for the other ones interested, try Cataclysm DDA. It's another zombie apocalypse scenario, with a pretty heavy emphasis on survival. Turning on hordes and lowering the item spawn can really make things hard to get the basic things for survival, and default item spawn often leads to one having way too much supplies.
There's also a number of quests that make you help develop an outpost of survivors.

Recent versions have beefed up the corrosive zombie's acid to the point where trying to melee them is an invitation to getting your legs melted to 0 hp. Still, it's somewhat fun to see the game is constantly in development. One would lost out a lot of new content as the stable version is already pretty outdated while the experimentals are updated daily.

Oh, also on the subject of more roguelikes, for a less zombie apocalypse scenario there's Unreal World. It's set in iron-age Finland, with some mythological stuff added in. Haven't given it a real good try yet, but from what I've read it's a sandbox/survival like thing.
